Boris beat me to this by a few minutes - from the closed thread.

They got Mirotic for Stanley Johnson, Jason Smith, and some second round picks. Mirotic is basically Ilyasova on steroids - at least on offense.

Horst managed to turn Dellavadova, their first rounder (which will be about #28-30), John Henson, Thon Maker, and some second round picks into George Hill and Nikola Mirotic without giving up any high level assets. (I know Brogdon and Middleton were second round picks, but those picks are not going to make or break the Bucks and the 29th pick in this draft might as well be a second rounder.

They also cleared the Delly, Henson, and Maker contracts and replaced them with two good rotation guys on expiring contracts worth about 30 million. This helps now and it helps in July when they have to resign guys.

The Pelicans are really sticking it to Anthony Davis as well - and he deserves it after screwing them over by timing his comments to try to make the Lakers the only real option for a trade partner. In response, the Pelicans look like they are refusing to do a deal with the Celtics and trading away guys that would help Davis make a run at the 8th seed if he returned. If Davis would have kept this in house, then I don't think the Pelicans do this.

The other great thing about the Davis moves for the Bucks is how this is going to affect the Celtics. How does it make you feel if you are Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, etc. to know that you've busted your ass for the Celtics, put up with Kyrie's BS, gotten to the conference finals without your stars, and then Danny Ainge calls the Pelicans and tells them to wait until the summer because he'll give them the best deal for Davis? If I'm Tatum, Smart, etc., I'm pissed.

Just like the Lakers that now have to play out the season with literally every guy on their roster and the coach knowing that LeBron wanted to dump them for Davis.

The Celtics and Lakers locker rooms are going to be really uncomfortable places the rest of the year.

Horst took a lot of heat and criticism early on but now?  The Henson and Delly for George Hill move was brilliant.  Packaging Thon which turned into Johnson and some 2nd rounders for Mirotic was just as good.

As for the Lakers, itโ€™s absolutely comical that they run their mouths and in the end get nothing.  Whereโ€™s Paul George?  Whereโ€™s AD?  Whereโ€™s Klay Thompson?  LeBron will grow old and lonely.  **** him and the LAL.

The pundits sure liked the Mirotic trade and so do I.  Heโ€™s another guy that can consistently shoot the 3 and I think thatโ€™s the missing piece they needed to fill.   As a result, you have to think this puts Milwaukee squarely in position to be the 1 or 2 seed in the East.  Thatโ€™s critical when you consider the gauntlet of the top teams like Philly and Toronto and Boston you will be competing against come playoff time.  All four of those teams are very good at home so homecourt advantage is a big deal.

The Mirotic trade is even better given that the Bucks gave up Thon Maker (at best their 12th man) and a second round pick for him. The Sixers mortgaged their future draft picks and a lot of depth. The Raptors gave up some bench depth for Gasol. The Celtics gave all their young talent the message that they are probably rentals for the rest of the year.

If Mirotic didn't end up playing at all, the trade really doesn't affect their future at all. In fact, it gave them even more salary cap flexibility this summer.

The playoffs will probably come down to 2 things. The first is what percentage the Bucks shoot from 3. The second is whether Giannis stays out of foul trouble. In about half the games he plays, he'll pick up a ticky tack foul in the first 2-3 minutes and then pick up his second in the first quarter. The whole Bucks system works because he aggressively drives to the basket. If he's in foul trouble and picks up a charge to have to sit longer with foul trouble, they are in deep trouble.

Guess it all pretty much hinges on what the NBA "wants" to happen. You all know what I'm talking about.

If they want the Bucks in the ECF, they will be there. If not, you'll see ticky-tack fouls called on Giannis.

What gives us some hope that this won't happen is that the Bucks aren't much worse of a TV draw than the Raptors or Sixers. The Celtics are likely to be very dysfunctional when half the guys playing are probably looking at houses in New Orleans already.

Now if the Knicks, Bulls, or Nets were involved, I would say it would be guaranteed that Giannis would pick up a couple of ticky tack ones every game.
