Instant reaction from post-practice McCarthy and injuries

1:51 PM, Sep. 20, 2012

Three players did not participate in Thursday’s practice – tight end Tom Crabtreee (shoulder), wide receiver Greg Jennings (groin) and linebacker Jamari Lattimmore (ankle).

Wide receiver Randall Cobb (hamstring), cornerback Davon House (shoulder), guard Josh Sitton (knee bruise), running back James Starks (toe) and defensive lineman C.J. Wilson (groin) were limited participants. Linebacker Nick Perry (wrist) was a full participant while linebacker Terrell Manning (concussion) returned.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media following Thursday’s practice:

*Greg Jennings worked in the rehab on Tuesday, which didn’t go as well as we hoped. Had more test yesterday. Was in rehab today. It is Wednesday on a normal week. We’ll see what happens.

*Maybe we were a little too optimistic on Jennings’ injury
.

*No concern on Randall Cobb or Josh Sitton, who had a knee bruise during Tuesday’s practice. Expects them to be OK by Monday.

*Seahawks have a premier back in Marshawn Lynch. Their ability to stay balanced is definitely a strength and that fits Russell Wilson’s game. It’s important for us to recognize that.

*Nick Perry has been practicing, it’s part of a path of an NFL season. I expect him to play Monday.

*Seattle has one of the top home-field advantages and I think anyone who’s played there would agree. When they’re on the field, crowd noise has to be one of the top in the league, no doubt.

*Seattle has a good secondary, had a chance to be around some of those guys at the Pro Bowl. They definitely challenge you on defense.

*I don’t really get involved in comments on social media. I feel strongly we have a healthy locker room. That’s something that hasn’t been discussed.

*With Pickett and Raji versus Seahawks’ run, I think our diversity on the defensive line is going to help us against this Seattle offense.

In a contract year, Jennings so far doing himself no favors with what looks like another lingering injury. Hope he can play.

If I'm TT, that phone call to his agent is happening no time soon.

Cedric Benson can get almost as many respect yards as Lynch, so they have that going for them Smiler

If the Packers can rattle their rookie QB, I see some good opportunities for some turnovers and a short field. That might take the "11th man" out of the game.

Missing Jennings will hurt, no doubt, but I think the O can score on them without him. There's an extra day this week, maybe that will help Jennings some.

Sounds like they (DL) will all be active.
Maybe just playing it safe with Jennings. He's a vet, knows the plays, etc. How often does Woodson practice anymore? Maybe more this season since he's at safety but most vets can practice one day, Friday, and be ready for Sunday.

These injuries may be used by the Packers when negotiations come around, but if GB tries to bid low one of the other 31 teams will still make a crazy offer.
The good thing about Jennings not playing is that the Packers are getting a look into their future without him in the lineup and are doing quite well thank you.when he signs with another team after the Packers cant(or wont) pay him what he and his agent is asking for he had better hope his new QB can get him the ball like AR does or his stats will plummet real fast.he also runs the risk of never again seeing a playoff game except in the stands.make a bid Miami,Oakland,KC,Jacksonville,Cleveland,Buffalo,a good player awaits your super large signed paycheck.
Enough of this. Greg Jennings makes us a better football team, PERIOD!

The Packers are not as good without him & it's more difficult to win.

We need Greg Jennings this year & I want him to play & be healthy

Was officially listed as a "limited participant" today but GBPG says "no Jennings" at practice.

Wonder if Jennings is wishful thinking here or whether MM will allow him to play.

Green Bay - Wide receiver Greg Jennings said that he was able to take some snaps in team drills today and that as far as he was concerned, he's going to play against Seattle Monday night.

Jennings said he had a setback with his groin injury on Tuesday, but that he has been felling better and got through practice Friday with no problems. He said he'll see how he's feeling in the morning, but he indicated that no matter what he's not going to be 100% on Monday.

"I’ll get through it," he said after practice. "I’m a positive guy. I’m not completely worried about it lingering too bad. It is what it is. It’s going to be something I’m going to have to push through right now. If I can get close to 100%, that’s all I’m looking for. I’m not looking to be 100% because that will never happen, ever, probably in my career. Ever."

Jennings tried to practice on Tuesday, but he said it was too soon and that he should have waited. He thought with an off day on Wednesday he'd have time to recover.

On Thursday, Jennings sat out practice and on Friday, he went into the Don Hutson Center to gauge where he was and felt good enough to take some reps with the team. The 11-on-11 drills are not open to the media, so all reporters knew is that he missed the first part of practice.

He said he decided to test it during the team's only full pads workout this week.

"It feels better," Jennings said. "I'm not going to sit here and act like it's 100%, but it feels really good. I'm extremely excited about the progress from going out there on Tuesday and being able to go back out there today. i'm going to practice tomorrow - see how it feels in the morning - go through another practice and see where we go from there.

"Right now, in my mind I'm up (active on game day). I'm ready to go. It feels a ton better."

Jennings said he's not too worried about not having his timing with QB Aaron Rodgers, even though the two have had about 14 practices together since the start of training camp.

In the season opener, Rodgers completed only 5 of 9 passes he through to Jennings for just 34 yards. That was the last time the two were on the field together.

"I think the most think I lost is the conditioning," Jennings said. "That’s the No. 1 thing. That all comes back pretty fast. I’m not too concerned about that. I don’t think Aaron’s too concerned about that. It’s just a matter of getting out there and being out there consistently.

"That’s been the issue, not being out there on a consistent basis to develop that timing. That comes back like riding a bike. So I’m not concerned about that."

How much Jennings plays against the Seahawks is the big question. Even if Jennings is well enough to perform at a satisfactory level, how much endurance will he have?

It's likely coach Mike McCarthy will limit his number of snaps to keep him from tiring and suffering another pull. The Packers practice Saturday and then fly to Seattle on Sunday.

Bolded comment is weird. Is he saying this groin thing is a career injury that will never be 100%? Or as a football player one can't ever feel 100% during the season? Confused

Yup. How I read it too.

While what you say is true in principal, the logic is flawed. There needs to be timing between QB and WR. The timing between Rodgers and Jennings has been poor this season with all of Jennings injuries (so far) and it can't get better with Jennings still not practicing. Him not participating does the Packers offense no good at all.
Maybe I don't understand the Packer's offense as well as I thought. Aren't most passing plays made to a spot? The QB reads through the defense in the area of each route, decides which will be open and throws to the preselected spot.

The idea of getting the timing down doesn't jibe with this. Either the receiver can get to the spot on time or he can't. I find it hard to believe coaching would say: "Aaron, you know Greg's dragging a little this week. Wait an extra 1/4 second on those deep outs."
Saturday practice:

Greg Jennings took part in all drills during the portion of practice open to media late this morning, which is a good sign the receiver will be available for the Packers’ game Monday night at Seattle.
