In a sport where managing expectations has a direct connection to job security, Packers coach Mike McCarthy isn’t doing a very good job β€” which gives him no choice but to do a great job of coaching.

So an NFL coach simply has to state his team might be good or they might not and he's got job security?

It's a terrible article. But that comment might be the most galactically stupid angle to an honest answer from a coach assessing his team that I've ever read.

Winning football games and division titles has a direct connection with job security Florio you ignorant no talent ass clown writing hack!
Maybe Florio thinks that he should be more like former basketball coach Al McGuire. Al could find problems where none existed - it was a talent of his. After running some oppenent off the floor, he often refused to say how good his team was. Instead, he would say things like 'the guards aren't getting back quick enough', or 'we allowed a 5 point run in the 3rd quarter', almost always ending with something like, 'we have a lot to work on'.

I think MM is trying to be sure the team is focused for this year, and trying to be sure they forget how last year ended. I am just not refering to the playoff loss here, but to the sadness concerning Mike Philbin. Nothing like some very positive words to do that.

I am not worried that the team will think to much of themselves. When you got 8-10 guys who will be picked up by other teams when the final cuts are made, the competition alone will keep their heads on straight. Also, MM has shown he can inject a word of caution when the situation arises.

Of course, Florio doesn't know all this and definitely did not take the time think it through.
