They've been a crappy program for the last 40 years or something, save the Vince Young year.  I don't get why it's supposed to be this great job.  They've got like 400 D1 player in Houston alone, they've got a charitable fan base, and they've got their own TV station.  And they aren't any more relevant today -- right now -- than Florida is.

There is a problem at the University of Texas, and it isn't the coach.

Tolzzzzzien could be a fine OC for the Steers and Queers. Bring in Vince Young to show prospective recruits a "good time"

I hope TT has Childress on speed dial...he can finally conduct the interview that the Vikings cock-blocked us on back in 06

He has a [lake] home here, but I wouldn't say he lives here. He's only here from between the Super Bowl and the combine, and then again for a couple weeks in June.

UT's next coach will have college experience. A friend who writes for the local paper and covers all things UT said this: Stanford's David Shaw, Baylor's Art Briles, Penn State's Bill O'Brien, Florida State's Jimbo Fisher, Miami's Al Golden and Louisville's Charlie Strong. Those would be at the top of my list.

I am not in any way, shape, or fashion arguing that MM will take the UT job, or is even a candidate for the job.

However, to deny the allure of the UT job is foolish.

They have more money than god.  The University endowment is over 7 billion dollars. They have the Longhorn Network, ESPN money.  They have amazing and world class facilities.  They have insanely passionate and rich donors.  They have access to one of the top 2 states for recruiting.  Austin is friggin amazing city, filled with music, food, women.

I wouldn't be shocked if UT hires Saban for a 10/$100M contract or something.

Saban upped with the Tide a few days ago.

I didn't mean to say the job is not alluring, that's why I listed the things that should make it a slam dunk winner.  And they aren't.  Texas football has been highly touted since I was young.  And I have no clue why.  I guess my problem is with this idea that it's this great program.  It's definitely a great job.

If I'm Charlie Strong, and I'm making just shy of 4 million a year at Louisville, I don't know if I'm real willing to take more money for the job in the pressure cooker of Texas football.  You go 8-4 at Louisville (in the ACC next year), the basketball team does what it's supposed to, and you have a great job.  Go 10-2?  Wow!

That's what I'm thinking Brak. It will take a coach with a lot of confidence and a very thick skin to take over that program. Guys like Jimbo Fisher and Charlie Strong have it made where they are. Sure they don't have the resources, budget, or facilities of Texas, but they also don't have the expectations. Charlie Strong and Jimbo Fisher can play crappy teams, inflate their records, and still make 4 million per year. Meanwhile whoever is at Texas will have all eyes on him all the time.

Texas will end up hiring James Franklin from Vanderbilt I think. He's an awesome recruiter and has done a lot with very little at Vandy. Plus he has that scumbag swagger that seems to fit well with Texas. He's hamstrung at Vanderbilt and won't ever get that team past 8 or 9 wins. He has the academic requirements on Vanderbilt, marginal budget and facilities, a weak recruiting base in Tennessee, and an SEC schedule to deal with all the time.
