The original game had people dressed normally, but someone along the way wore a costume, and then other people started wearing costumes, and that became the norm.

Hall also co-created the 1970s game show Split Second, and hosted a revival of it in the 1980s:

There are a few eps of the 70s version on Youtube, and a lot of the hard-core game show fans I know say that version was even better.  It's a really underrated game show that deserves another revival.
