WOW, has he turned into a player under the tutelage of Coach Darren Perry

Draft and develop works when you can master the "develop" part of the equation

Awesome to see him ascending on Sundays

GB gave up a pick to go up and get him, great move and its already paying dividends

One of the more telling stat is the number of returns of 20+ yards for kickoffs. We have only 3 so far, which actually puts us No. 26 on the list. On returns of 40+, we are tied with a bunch of teams at No. 6 with only one return that long (Cobb's). Wipe out Cobb's 108-yard return and we sink even further.

On punt returns, our average puts us at No. 25; our 20+ yards is 0, which ties us with a bunch of teams at the bottom. Our longest punt return is 17 yards, which puts us at No. 22.

Bad coaching in this case is definitely hidden by one 108-yard kick return!
Back to Burnett, I'm really impressed by his progress as well. I was worried that the injury would have hindered his development, but he hasn't missed a beat. The fact that the Bears supposedly wanted him before Uncle Ted swooped up to get him doesn't hurt either.
I'm amazed that Burnett is actually a better player than before his knee injury. It sure doesn't look like he's lost any speed, and he seems alot more comfortable out there than he was last year. Another great pick by the Packers in a 2010 draft class that will go down as one of their better draft/FA classes if guys can stay healthy.
Burnett seems to have had a full recovery

snippet from JSO Insider Bob McGinn:

"Burnett keeps demonstrating that he can be a complete safety, intercepting two passes off the hash. On the first, Burnett trusted his eyes and vacated the middle at the right time when Cutler pump-faked right and threw deep right to Roy Williams. Then he came across and, when the ball was thrown a bit inside, vaulted high for a leaping pick."

Sure about that? Wink
#2 in the league

Yes I'm sure

Burnett had a great game vs. the Bears. Hope that continues vs. good teams like the Lions
The sad thing is that that stat looks better than it is even. That's ranked by punting yardage, which Green Bay should be low on the list because they score a lot and punt less often. Filter by Net Average and Ugh! That's not pretty. Hello #32.

He used his redshirt year well it would seem.
While I will never say that an injury is a blessing, Burnett, since he seems to be back at full strength, might have benefited from it. Instead of worrying about the physical side of his game, he might actually have had more opportunity to study film, and watch practices/games from an angle he otherwise would not have.

Burnett is going to be a real good one. If by the grace of God Collins is able to come back from his injury, and play next year, we'll be all the more loaded in the secondary.

An instinctive ballhawk who recorded 14 interceptions in three seasons at Georgia Tech, Burnett paid homage to Collins with a convincing imitation after dedicating this season to his fallen teammate.

"Anytime you lose a brother, a big-time playmaker like that, we played for Nick," Burnett said. "We kept Nick in mind and played hard for him."

"I want to cherish every moment that I'm out there after missing so much of last season," Burnett said.

Burnett pounced again in the fourth quarter, this time when Cutler sailed a throw over Williams .

"Morgan came up with some huge plays," Woodson said. "Last season was cut short for him. He was really coming on.

"Now we just look forward to him growing as a player."

Past the click; quotes from Raji, Matt Bowen with an interesting take on the injury faking by the Giants and more.
CBs and safeties are such crap shoots. The college game is so different, so much less sophisticated than the pro game. Makes it hard to pick the right guys. Look at Jamar Fletcher, who was a college star and useless in the pros. Size and speed matter, as well as smarts. Some guys fit a college system, but have a head full of rocks. Pat Lee looks like he might fit but no one wants Tramon or Sam Shields. Nick Collins was considered a reach, before his third pro bowl. All the more credit to TT. TT picks enough good looking ones that he gets a fair share that pan out.
Without a doubt, Morgan is stepping up. I read a few weeks ago how he was such a ball hawk. TT seems to like to find ball hawks that can play physical too.

I have no problem with that.

Kudos to the kid, keep it up!

Oh and my favorite quote out of the article:

quote:
•Michael Vick has the word "Superman" tatooed on the back of his right hand. According to coach Andy Reid, he suffered a contusion on his broken when he tried to brace himself after a knockdown by New York Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty.

Dream team... superman... who cares. Douchebags are douchebags, no matter how they spin themselves.

Burnett had a nose for the football when he played at Ga Tech. Made a lot of big plays, but also took some chances from time to time.

Seems like this year he's much more assignment sure and we're not seeing a lot of breakdowns. That's got to be Darren Perry's job, and if he has half the success with Burnett that he's had with Shields and Tramon we are in great shape.

Remember when Burnett got caught peeking into the backfield vs the Colts in preseason ? that led to a long 57 yd TD for a wide open guy - Perry and others were on Burnett's case for taking unnecessary risks

I believe Darren Perry works more with the safeties, while Joe Whitt is the CB coach who works with Shields, Tramon etc

Perry came out of the Pittsburgh system so he may have worked with Polamalu as well
They've come a long way in repairing ACL tears.

Would've been nice to see what having two safeties with range like Collins and Burnett would've allowed Capers to do. At the same time, it appears Burnett should minimize the loss of Collins some, basically assuming his role at FS for this season.

Indeed, that would have been awesome to watch on Sundays- maybe next year

Here is a new article on Burnett from Tyler Dunne at JSOnline
