I just got Direct TV this season, so I'm still getting to know the NFL Network guys, my oh my is Faulk really this bad? Faulk and the genius that is Michael Irvin were just talking about the NFC South, Faulk said he loved Tampa's punishing running game with Legarrius Brunt (Legarrette Blount) Two weeks ago he was discussing how Chicago won the division last year, and Green Bay barely got into the playoffs. He then went on to explain how Chicago rested all their starters in the last game of the season last year, huh? Just because you were a good player, doesn't mean you have the talent to be a commentator. Sapp, Irvin, and Faulk are embarrasingly bad.

I quit watching these idiots years ago. Sure, Chicago was resting their starters, that's why Urlacher, Briggs, Cutler and Forte were in the game at the end of the 4th quarter and Lovie Smith emphatically said all week that he was going to play his starters Roll Eyes. A two second glance at an article recapping the game would have made all of this obvious.

Likewise, I used to revel in the attention the Packers got, in particular with Brent and Reggie. And now I see it for what it is, mostly distraction, and ratings material. There are some decent broadcasts...playbook comes to mind, with Sterling, where they actually do the X's and O's, but most of it is blather.

Roll Eyes
Like Rodgers said last season when he blasted Jaworski and Kornheiser, a lot of these guys do not put the prep work into their analysis. Some do, but a lot don't and when you have to speak intelligently on 32 teams, you look like an unprepared idiot. Sad thing is, Faulk is typically pretty good (compared to most). Sapp is actually better than I thought, although the bar was set at 0, so wasn't exactly tough to exceed my expectations. Irvin, though, is the worst on TV. That's a hell of a statement when guys like Shannon Sharpe and Emmitt Smith embarass themselves on a weekly basis. But I just can't handle Irvin's incessant yelling. That guy needs to lose his job.
I don't watch much of that stuff, if I do it's the FOX guys, they're not bad. The bits they do with Frank Caliendo aren't funny at all, but I like the insight that they provide.

I can't hardly watch the ESPN guys. Tom Jackson gets worse every season and Michael Irvin is plain awful. I like what Ditka has to say sometimes, he's pretty honest and fair. Can't stand Chris Carter at all.

The NFL Network guys are okay if they stick to what they know. If Faulk is talking about RBs or Warner is talking about QBs or Sapp is talking about DL or LBs then I think they're pretty insightful. When they start analyzing other positions and players, they're analysis gets downright awful. Sapp is pretty honest and I appreciate that, but he takes one issue and beats it to death at times. I don't pay much attention to Mooch, he doesn't offer much analysis anymore.

Anyone hear what Tom Jackson said before the Bears game? Something along the lines that Finley will struggle against the Bears Cover 2. Any intelligent football fan will tell you that a great TE kills the Cover 2. Apparently that escaped Tom Jackson, who also didn't bother to check last years box score, where Finley went over 100 yards in Chicago. There's being wrong, and there's just not doing your job.
All the Fox pre-game guys are pretty good- maybe I like them because they've been around so long. Really like Curt Warner and Deion Sanders- both guys are solid in their analysis and give the Pack plenty of props. All the ESPN analysts are tools- their pro-East coast bias and mindless takes are unwatchable. Tom Jackson is a clown.
