I absolutely think the Badgers ARE competing at the top level right now. They lost 1 game where they had the ball with a chance to win on the final possession. They just won the Orange Bowl against a national power from Florida. No, the Badgers didn't win the national title and they weren't the #1 team, but to me they were close enough that I absolutely think they can get to that title game someday if the right circumstances occur. They've been knocking on that door, I could see them breaking that door down at some point even though it likely won't happen this year.
One thing I will say though.... If Chryst leaves in the next couple years, then I think UW could easily fall back to being just good instead of excellent which they were this season. I think he's a special coach, and as long as he's there, I think every few years (Maybe say every 3 years or so) he'll field a team similar to what we had this past year and be able to compete with everyone.

I have always been one to get on the Badgers case for losing in big games. Sure they haven't broken through in the Big Ten Title game (probably because I am there every year and they have yet to win when I see them in person EVER) but they have a pretty good streak of bowl wins going and last year's Orange Bowl win was a thing of beauty to me.
fightphoe93, I also have thought the same thing and I do worry about UW not paying their coaches enough to keep them around. I of course know nothing about what Chryst thinks but I wonder if the pull of being home is enough to keep him happy or would a big time blue blood program with an bottomless wallet lure him away?

I think that Chryst can stand up with recruiting with many schools but the pull of a Bama, O$U, or the Georgia's of the world might be too much to compete with.
But, that being said it is kind of cool to see UW even in the discussion with the really big boys of college football.

Yes! Great News!
That kid has offers from everyone... all the top programs. 4 stars. Hope heβs as good as the clippings...
Other than O$U poaching Antonio Williams (RB) I canβt recall any other recruit getting flipped under the Chryst regime. Time will tell but I think thatβs the strength of Chryst. Heβs not going to chase guys that arenβt 100% committed to the UW culture.
