Playoffs are good, otherwise we could tune in and complain about refs, back to backs, load management etc.

Waiting for mid April.

The important thing about the regular season is that you make the top 6 in your conference and avoid the play-in games to be able to make the playoffs. There is almost no difference between the 3-6 seeds in the Eastern conference. Almost all of them could beat anyone or lose to anyone.

Once you can assure that, the rest of the season is like the one preseason exhibition game in the NFL where the starters play the first half (at least until the starters started sitting out the entire exhibition season). You see what lineup combinations work best and who is good enough to stay on the floor in the playoffs, get reps in on offensive sets, and try out different defenses.

Then, when the playoffs hit, the rotation essentially shrinks to 7 guys, and you usually get beat when the opponent targets your weakest link. The opponents game plan specifically for the opponent for days (instead of a single walk-through for a few minutes in the morning before the game). It's a completely different game.

Most of the so called All Star events are a complete waste of time.  Doesn’t matter the sport.  Can’t tell you the last time I bothered to watch any of them.

As for the NBA, they need to either solve for the load management issue or seriously address the schedule.  No fans want to pay top dollar to show up at a game and see the star players sit.  Then again, some of this could be solved by just reducing the schedule to 60 games.

The NBA playoffs to me are actually pretty solid.  The play in has been successful, and they let players get more physical so it’s not just run and gun and shoot 60 3s a game.   You are also assured of seeing the best players play most if not all of the games.

It's funny how hockey players manage to play back to back games all the time and they don't take nights off.  And they play a MUCH more physical game.

I think the NBA has some serious issues on their hands right now.  The game is kind of unwatchable with teams chucking up 50 3 pointers a game and only make half an effort to play defense.  And as you said Tschmack, I think they need to do something about the load management issue.  It sucks for fans who pay their salaries to pay really good money to go to a game and players are sitting it out.

The issue is depending on the sequencing the back to backs provide a huge advantage to the team - especially a home team that has a couple of days of rest.  It’s just stupid and it feeds the load management problem.

I also think the association needs to figure out the 3pt shot.  It’s become far too easy and routine and convenient and emphasizes the paint and alley oops and dunks and defense overall. Not that I’d like to see them return back to the 80s or 90s thug ball but I mean, there’s literally no defense being played today.

In its heyday, the NBA drew fans not just because of the star players, but also the storylines and rivalries.  I’d argue that also included some of the villains or enforcers like Laimbeer and Oakley and Mo Lucas and Cedric Maxwell and Dennis Rodman and even Gary Payton.

Perhaps they limit number of 3 attempts per game.  Say 30. Once you get beyond it, then it’s all 2 pt attempts.  Would certainly change the game strategy.

The way teams like Boston play you literally do not need a coach.  Just go out and bomb away 60 times a game. Thats why I can’t respect what they’ve done nor celebrate guys like Tatum.

After watching Steph and even C Clark making shots from the logo perhaps moving the line back a couple of feet would make a difference. The percentage would go down, thus altering the analytics. This would eliminate the corner 3 which any  Tom, Dick and slow 6 foot Wisconsin farm boy (me) could routinely make.  Maybe  the line moving back would make a bit more room at the elbows for mid range shots and open up more driving lanes.
