Game 4 is what I thought game 2 or 3 would be. Dallas gonna have to do this again in Game 5? Think they will??? Nahhh.......

1....2....3.....CANCUN!!

Gentleman's Sweep

This Celtics title feels a lot like the Lakers title in the bubble- uninspiring and hollow.

Not sure a team has ever made it through this easily given all the injuries in the East and a somewhat flawed Mavericks team that really wasn’t very good defensively.   The Mavericks are a lesser version of the Celtics and honestly Minnesota or Denver would have put up much more of a fight.

The good news is the basketball gods almost certainly will pay the Celtics back for their good fortune this year.

The Mavericks may have been the weakest team to make an NBA Finals in many years. I don't think there is any question that their 3rd best player is the worst on any Finals team in the last 15 years and one of the worst ever. PJ Washington is a 6th man type. He's not a terrible player, but he's not a guy who should be taking 12 shots a game in the playoffs.

The only team with a worse 3rd option recently was the 2007 Cavaliers. That team was just young LeBron with random parts. That team wouldn't have won 20 games without LeBron. They didn't even have a good 2nd player.

The Mavs made the Finals because Karl-Anthony Towns forgot how to shoot in the Western Conference Finals. He shot 53% from three in the Suns series this year, 39% in the Nuggets series, and 24% against the Mavs. He was 4 for 28 from three in the 4 losses to the Mavs. Games 4 and 5 of the Mavs-Wolves series were one possession game and the Wolves were ahead with under 2 minutes left in both. If he even shoots 35% in that series the Wolves win. He's a 40% FT shooter for his career.

and we complain about Giannis

Meant 3PT shooter, but KAT is not Giannis.

If you took everything about Giannis and substituted in KAT's usual 3 point shooting and FT shooting, you'd have the greatest player of all time.

Something else to think about is Tatum is up for the Supermax extension and Derrick White has a year left on his current deal.  Hauser will attract some interest.  Horford isn’t getting and younger and Porzingis isn’t getting any healthier.  How well will that Holiday contract extension age (pun intended)?

Boston, like Milwaukee, is basically right up against the 2nd apron but unlike the Bucks they have more contract related decisions to make that likely puts them over that threshold.  I’m also pretty certain they can’t use the Grant Williams exception due to their cap situation.

There’s a reason there hasn’t been a back to back champion for a number of years now.  The salary cap and unpredictable nature of injuries works against longevity and really creates an environment of parity.

The other factor to consider is I fully expect the East to be better next year.   Orlando and Indiana should be improved with some playoff experience.  If Philly adds another star player they are a threat.  You have to think Miami won’t stay put.  The Knicks are trending upward and can upgrade their roster.   And I do think the Bucks will be better simply because literally everything went sideways on them this past year.

As MP2 mentioned, a healthy and motivated Giannis gives you a real chance despite what’s all around you.
