The running game showed up in a big way tonight giving us a legit shot at winning with a cold backup QB.  Was really pleased with how Lacy ran vs. the 8-man box.

Unfortunately the defense could not generate much of a pass rush against the bears' o-line - the pile of injuries at LB really played a role here in my view.  Without the pass rush, our secondary showed its couldn't handle big receivers.  Run defense was strong for a while, but the front seven were worn out by the beginning of the 4th quarter and got killed on the last drive.

Losing Rodgers put a ton of pressure on the defense tonight, and they didn't come through as we got beat in the trenches on the defensive side of the ball.  The biggest mistake, IMHO, was not running the ball enough.  That said, it's really tough to reboot the game plan after your first drive of the game.

To be honest, it's hard to be upset anymore. I'm just kind of numb to injuries anymore. It started in camp and hasn't let up. People here make jokes when others question why we have so many non-contact injuries. I think it's a question worth asking.

But then when you have just bad luck like Perry, Cobb, Mathews, and now AR, you pretty much can just say it isn't your year. I think I heard Tafoya say we have the most injuries in the league the past 4 years. It gets old.

Cutler tears his groin and he's going to miss 2 games? Hayward pulls his hamstring in camp and misses most of camp, the pre-season, and half the year. I EXPECT multiple game injuries every week. I don't know why it happens, but it does. Hell, our back ups to our back ups get hurt.

So it was just a matter of time before AR went down. Just not our year I guess. One of these years maybe we can stay healthy and we'll steamroll the league. One can hope...

+Running Game, Lacy, Starks, OL

- Passing game, Wallace, OL

Seriously, the OL was great on runs, but couldn't keep anyone away from Wallace.  Not that it mattered, Wallace throwing passes sidearmed isn't helping.  Now I know what MN is going through.

+Raji

-Pass rush, Pass def.

How many draft picks have we put into the def?  Sure the run def is decent but we still cannot do crap on the pass game.  You cannot let a backup light it up like that and let a Bears OL with rookies on the line stop you from getting to said backup.  That's just embarrassing.

+ I turned it off after McCarthy failed to challenge the call on Quarless's catch in the 2nd quarter.  Had to work early and it seemed they blew their chance.

- I still checked the score this morning in a vain hope they might have pulled it out.

+ They would have won easily if either Rodgers or Cutler had played most of the game.

- They didn't.

Mike Daniels May not like the "s" word, but that described last nights performance against a career backup.

Seneca Wallace does not belong on an NFL roster. Thompson deserves criticism for making this mistake, and should be watched closely to see how fast he rectifies the mistake. They trot Wallace out next week, we're in trouble I think.

Officials "letting them play" favored the Bears, because the decided not to call holding or offensive PI all night.

McCarthy and Capers were out-coached last night. That really pisses me off, because I fancy calling them among the best.

I don't think MM was outcoached as much as I think Capers was. MM never got a real chance to settle in with Wallace and see what he couldn't do. If there was any mistake on MM's part, it was in failing to better prepare Wallace. I do think the frustration of not getting the ball and Wallace not pulling the trigger was showing on MM's demeanor. He didn't know what to do when Wallace couldn't even carry out a simple screen or get the ball near a WR.

Pos:

Lacy looked like a freight train

Special Teams Punt block

Our best defensive player is just about ready to come back (needed sorely)

Neg:

Rush couldn't get home: live by the blitz....etc

As said by others, no back-up plan; TT crapped the bed on this one; got cute, got burned, you knew it would happen sooner or later

sloppy tackling

- Ted Thompson...I love you uncle Ted...and I certainly have grown complacent over the years with  the durability at QB....and yes...the old adage-----there is no replacing Rodgers--but this demonstrates a massive hole he could not or would not fill....Matt Flynn wins this game....A decent  QB that is with the Packers thru Training Camp wins this game..Wallace was a negative today...he seemed lost at times--not understanding lanes or how to avoid the most basic pressure.

-McCarthy not challenging the Quarless catch...What are you saving that for?...Have some sprint plays out of the pocket  for Wallace----were they that afraid of him getting hurt?

-I think the Late love affair with AJ Hawk is officially over.

Heckova post.

I agree about TT. He really failed with bringing in a respectable backup QB. Wallace is not going to win games. He can't run and he can't throw.

at least had good familiarity with the playbook. For McCarthy's rep as a quarterback guru, the backup QB situation is hard to fathom.

MM and the coaching staff failed in coaching up a decent backup QB.

Yep. Once you lose the HOF QB, the system breaks down.

Even all those great DBs, "which has nothing to do with AR", don't look so good anymore.

That said, and there were several plays where we got to McCown and he throws up a prayer and it's answered.

Just one of those games where little went right...and we still could have won it.

It is what it is, without Rodgers and CMIII, this team has no blue chip players and it's hard to win in this league without blue chip players.  Just ask Oakland and Jacksonville how the last 5 years or so have been.

That said, the Graham Harrell experience finally had negative consequences.  I think MM and TT were hoping he would be Flynn 2.0, ie: a guy that can use the weapons provided and not make mistakes.  It backfired and we'll see the consequences over the next 3-4 weeks.

+ Lacy is a one heck of a punishing runner.  If you only get a piece of him, he'll run through it like you're not even touching him.  Only full on shots on him seem to bring him down.  Starks looks rejuvenated as the change of pace back.

- The Pack's defense gave an F level performance in this one.   Certainly, having backup OLBs out there for 4 quarters really hurt.  That said, the secondary was relatively healthy and looked like they had one of their worst games of the year.  The D-Line had a bad game overall as well.  Raji (I'm not a big Raji fan, but he was one of the only positives on the D) and Shields looked good, but I wasn't too impressed with anyone else on the defense.

- The injury front has hit rock bottom.  At no point in the Super Bowl year of 2010 were they as bad off injury wise as they are now in terms of the sheer quality of guys missing.   When Rodgers was out in 2010, at least the rest of the roster had started to stabilize injury wise.  Here in 2013, it doesn't look like that is the case.  There are major problems at QB, WR/TE, OLB, and if Lang is out, the O-Line as well.

- Defense has just 3 INT's this season.  Two of those came on 4th downs (Neal vs Washington and House vs Cleveland) where an incompletion would have had the same result.  High paid guys like Williams, Burnett, and Hawk have not shone any inclination to produce turnovers.  There was supposed to be an emphasis on creating fumbles this year too, but there have been only 4 recovered in 8 games.

+ - Quarless was not awful; in fact, he was pretty good blocking and route running and catching.

- Chuckie - the guy is just a dunce. On and on and on about small DBs not being able to cover tall WRs. Proof - 6'1" House gets beat by a 6'3" Bear. When did 6'1" become a "small" DB?  Meanwhile, according to Chuckie, Tim Jennings put on 1 1/2 inches. The All-Pro DB is 5'7" and change. Chuckie says Jennings is 5'9". Chuckie has to exaggerate Jennings' height as saying "5'7" would probably cause spontaneous combustion of all 4 of Chuckie's braincells.  The team that just knows small DBs cannot cover tall WRs has a CB who is 5'7". Don't believe me, check his driver's license.

So this is a fact. The Chicago Bears think Tim Jennings, at 5'7" and change, can cover any NFL WR. The question is, can 6'1" House do the same?
