Well having 2 firsts and 2 seconds - 4 out of the top 60 picks is not too shabby.

NE is not a deep team show they could have used the extra later round picks to fill out the roster/competition thingie.

But you cannot say that using just for quality picks wont improve the team. In fact those 4 picks may be the difference between runnerup and grand prize winner.

Teams with elite QB's are always in the mix and a guy ot two can be a huge difference compared to a team with an average QB with the normal amount of slots to be fillled for a typical NFl team.

Maybe Belicheat has it figured out in his mind that 4-7 round picks are not much more valuble to than udfa types and it is better to concentrate on the middle of round one to round three.
Darth Hoodie has stockpiled picks for a number of years but has been very short on hitting on playmakers with those picks. They made the Super Bowl with almost no pass rush and a sieve of a defensive backfield. He needed to grab some "surefire" top talent on defense and used the picks to do so. He targeted his guys and went up and got them instead of letting things fall and being stuck with a second or third choice.

In their last 2 SB they've caught an overachieving Giants teams on fire both times. Those Giants teams mowed down several playoff teams on their way to beating the Pats.

Both of those Giants teams beat Packer teams that were far superior, in Green Bay. The Giants were just on a roll.

I don't take too much away from the Packers for losing to those teams and I don't take too much away from the Pats either. IMO the 2007 and 2011 Packers and Pats were better than the Giants teams from those years.
I think you make some cogent points there FS, but in my mind the scoreboard is the final arbiter of who was the best team...

See if you can come up with any other "dynasties" that didn't actually win the Title. Bills made it to 4 Super Bowls in a row, something no other team has ever pulled off, but nobody calls them a dynasty and for good reason

Tip of the cap to the Pats continued excellence - nothing to sneeze at. But they haven't won it all since Spygate and the franchise is 3-3 in the Super Bowl now
So far, the Pats have had a pretty good offseason. They finally got another WR in Lloyd, and then they traded up for the two solid defensive prospects last night. Still pretty weak in the secondary, but perhaps they'll focus there in Round 2.

One thing to keep in mind is that while they nearly won the Super Bowl last year, they really didn't have many impressive wins. What was the best team they beat all year? Baltimore? The Jets?

The AFC playoffs included the Tebows, Texans with a 3rd string QB, and Bengals with a rookie QB. The Steelers were banged up and the Ravens, while solid, still have Joe Flacco at QB (and very nearly won in New England). Contrast that with the competition in the NFC: Packers, 49ers, Saints, Giants, Lions, and Falcons, and there's little doubt where the balance of power was last year. Even teams like Philly and the Bears seemed more formidable than some of the AFC playoff teams.

I have heard perhaps on ESPN this morning is that NE with its draft has decided to go all in for another Super bowl year. At 35 this August Tom Brady may not have that many good years ahead of him. At this point in Brady's career there is not enough years left in Brady to draft and develop players.

As Packer fans we all know when you go for the pieces for 1 more Super Bowl for your star QB you end up wrecking the franchise for years. I hope Bellicheat finds this out too.

But all their success was due to cheating, right?

That is possibly one of the saddest reaches ever Toad. Really, just truly pathetic and lacking effort. You will never make the team.

Posed as a question addressing a common comment on this very forum. Never by me. The team got busted but IMO, that indiscretion has little to do with their success on the field and off. Easily the premier organization in the league. I also know since you pay such close attention to everything I post, you already knew this was my position.

Something tells me that Tom Terrific wouldn't make an across the body throw into coverage when set up for a game winning field goal and a trip to the Super Bowl.
