OK, what this doesn't tell you are that these disc are the new SHM-CD. I e-mailed Rhino and they confirmed that this set is the Japanese issue with a fold-around card added to identify the albums included and the track listing, so they are the SHM-CD format. SHM-CD's play in regular CD players, the difference is that they are made with a special polycarbonate plastic and apparently they totally crap all over regular CDs in terms of sound quality. I've been in a few different forums and people who have this set (it has been available in Japan for a couple months) say that this issue just blows away the early 90's remasters and are also superior to the versions on the recently released Mothership collection. If any of you have ever collected Japanese issues, I'm sure you will not argue that Japanese versions have always been of higher quality than the US issues.
I was actually thinking of having this set imported which would have cost me about $350, and now I should be able to get it for $180 or less (Amazon has a $180 price tag on it). So I am one happy fellow this evening.
As with that recently issued Pink Floyd set, I'm not big on these mini-LP packages, but it should be cool seeing the "pinwheel" cover of Led Zeppelin 3 and the cut-outs on Physical Graffiti. It should be interesting. I can't wait to hear this set.
