Makes me wonder even more about Sherrod.  How could he possibly be any worse?  Newhouse makes Allan Barbre on his worst day with the GBP look like Anthony Munoz.  He's just completely awful.

2014:

Bacteria and Bulaga at Tackle.

Lang and Sitton at Guard.

EDS (or a high draft pick at C).

And Barclay/Sherrod as your insurance policies.

You could do a lot worse then that kind of OL in the NFL.

And for good reason. Besides Hawk, he's the ****tiest starter we've got.

Perhaps my  memory is shot...but was Newhouse always this bad? I know he had some not so great moments at LT the previous two seasons, but he had good stretches also. This season, he's an absolute liability 100% of the time. Barclay is outperforming him in pass protection, and Barclay sucks at pass blocking.

I just don't get it.

And thank your lucky stars McMillian has been benched.

What an incredible mess the safety position has become. Is there any good secondary talent playing at Bethune Cookman this year?

Lots of angst towards Newhouse, but he's not astarter, and he's been thrust into the lineup due to, go figure, injury.  And he plays a position that can't be used situationaly. I'd like to see him play better, but he's just not that good.  And he'sapparently the best option right now in the absence of Barclay and Bulaga.

Back to Newhouse...I'd almost take a chance on a street free agent at this point. Newhouse seems that bad right now. At the very least put Sherrod in for a series or two (especially considering that 12 isn't playing, kind of mitigates the risk a bit) and see if he can play or if there's too much rust for this season.

Part of the angst with Newhouse is that there's a first-round pick sitting there behind him who's supposedly finally healthy for the first time in two years.  Add in the fact that Newhouse is a stiff and I think that's where the questions come from.

Well I would have thought that as well about Sherrod but after a healthy Matt Flynn is just sitting on the sidelines and comes in and is worlds better then Tolzien, a ILB named Lattimore also sits on the sidelines. and guys named Banjo and Richardson sit while MD Jennings tackles air....

Ummmm...Im not convinced it's because Sherrod isn't ready.

Bet on Sherrod not being ready. And he may never be. They tried to give him a starters job somewhere as a rookie. Could not justify it. Then the injury. I think the board is pretty attuned with regard to Newhouse. Watching him trying to peel his man off the QB puts you in mind of those nature films. Where the mother gives a brave and futile effort after her young is taken by a predator.

Hawk is worse than Newhouse? Please.

Watch hawk the 3rd and 4th quarters and get back to me. Oh, and between the two, newhouse is the bigger turd. But not by much in that game.

Post of the year. I am so sick of all the favoritism and political games coaches play. What happened to the concept of earning playing time by merit? Only the strongest coaches dare to pay more than lip service to it.

Remember how Bishop was supposed to be complete **** until an injury forced him into the line up? Suddenly it became apparent he was our best ILB all along.

What do you hypothohize is the reason Newhouse is starting or that Sherrod is not.

I would say they can't see the forest for the trees

Newhouse has seemingly regressed from last year and/or can't play on the right side of the line for whatever reason.

He was never that good, but was at least serviceable over many games. And ARod saved him from looking as bad as he really was by scrambling or otherwise avoiding the guy Newhouse had whiffed on. But there were still plays where he'd manage to get just enough of a block to allow for a big play.

So he has the experience, and knows what to do. I'm guessing he just can't do it.

I'm also guessing Sherrod can't show enough in practice to start ahead of Newhouse. That's a scary thought, although he is the only other healthy T on the roster. That might be even more scary!

If true and the fans can see this, then TT can certainly see it as well. And he should fire the coaching staff.

Newhouse is pouting IMO.  He also was playing against their best lineman in Robison thus he had to get off quickly, perhaps too quickly.  I also was amazed that he didn't get called for false start on so many plays tn the 2nd half.

Great point. I hadn't taken that into consideration.

Sherrod got 3 ST snaps last week. He was in on ST again today, don;t know yet how many snaps though.

Was nice to see Richardson out there. I hope he can supplant Jennings soon.

No doubt Newhouse is awful. But he has been awful for 3 years. Last year he was downright brutal when supposedly protecting Aaron's blindside as the starting LT.

Do the coaches and or GM deserve some of the blame for putting so much faith in a subpar player?

Seems like undeserving players are getting too much time (Jennings comes to mind) and there is a lack of accountability for those who perform poorly.

Undeserving players are going to get a lot of time if you don't have anyone better. Newhouse is a better option than Sherrod. Which is depressing.

Sometimes actually seeing a backup for extended time is an eye opener. After seeing #31 House the past few weeks my appreciation for Tramon Williams, decline and all, has gone up a lot.

Now as for AJ Hawk. I can only guess that they don't trust Jones or Lattimore to communicate the defensive calls.
