Heading back to the NFC Championship game, although there are many of the same players, we have three major upgrades.

1) Dom Capers instead of Bob Sanders. There isn't even a comparison between the two as far as Capers' ability to create a game plan, and call a defense during a game. Sanders is still wondering how to defend the back shoulder throw.

2) ARod, instead of the end of his Packers career Favre. We can count on ARod to make plays in the pocket, and most importantly, not end his team's season with a stupid interception.

3) Clay Matthews. Nobody on the 2007 team had the impact on defense that Clay has.

The only disappointment is that the championship game won't be at Lambeau.

You're nuts.

But slowmo, you are right...this is shaping up to be a similar situation as that game was.

2007: Home game against an upstart who made a great playoff run. Similar to this year's Pack. Favored in the game and definitely a game they should have won.

2010: Will be playing a team they should expect to beat and who they seem on paper better than.

A loss will be very disappointing either way. This team is on such a roll and defensively are playing so well, I suspect this team is playing with more confidence than 2007.
All dames are alike: they reach down your throat and they can grab your heart, pull it out and they throw it on the floor, step on it with their high heels, spit on it, shove it in the oven and cook the **** out of it. Then they slice it into little pieces, slam it on a hunk of toast, and serve it to you and then expect you to say, "Thanks, honey, it was delicious."

Watching now... Smiler

He almost did. From a recent article by former Packer reporter:

"Tom Pelissero
1500ESPN.com

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- It was halftime of the NFC championship game in January 2008, and Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy was fed up with Brett Favre.

The veteran quarterback's numbers were fine -- 10-of-18 passing for 163 yards with a touchdown and a 104.6 passer rating -- and the Packers led the New York Giants 10-6.

But on a blustery night at Lambeau Field, where the game-time temperature was 1 below with a minus-23 wind chill, there were signs Favre was on the verge of freezing up. His body language suggested he simply didn't want to be on the field.

As those who witnessed the scene tell it, McCarthy was venting in a corner of the locker room when, in a particularly stressful moment, he blurted out something to the effect of, "If that guy weren't Brett Favre, I'd bench his ass!"
I said at the end of the game MM should have started Rodgers in the 2nd half and told TOG to stay in the locer room and get good and warmed up and we'll get you if we need you. We wouldn't have.

Say the Pack did win the Super Bowl, would TOG have done his hissy fit retirement? Maybe not. Would he have just come to camp in 2008 as the #1 QB. I think so. Would Rodgers have walked at the end of the season? Who knows. Things may have truned out a lot different if the Packwers had won that NFC Championship game.
Also add Tramon Williams and BJ Raji to that list of major upgrades. Williams was around but only a rookie and nickel/dime back. Williams is a top 2 or 3 corner and Raji is one of the best nose tackles in the league already.

I still have visions of Al Harris getting beaten like a ragdoll by Burress. They couldn't stop that dude that game.
There are a lot of interesting parallels between the Giants team and the Packers team this year.

Eli Manning was on fire in the playoffs, that defense got after it, and obviously they won 3 playoff games on the road - not including the Superbowl (neutral site). I also think there were questions toward the end of that season whether or not the NYG would make the playoffs (or not).

Rodgers is on a roll right now, the D is playing lights out, and they've won 2 tough games on the road where the score was not indicative of how badly they kicked the crap out of the Eagles and Falcons.

Now they get either the Hawks or Bears, and I can guarantee neither team wants anything to do with them.
