One final point- if we could find a way to sell New York, California, Texas, and Florida to the highest bidder let’s figure out a way to make that happen.  Whenever there’s corruption, violence, dysfunction, or just general incompetence there’s a 99% certainty it’s coming from one of those four states.

Those 4 states are roughly 37% of the US economy. They largely pay for large portions of the country in terms of federal aid (they pay much more in than they get back).

They might make up 37% of the economy, but that’s changing.  People are leaving California in droves.   People are moving to FL and TX because it’s basically cheap to live there and the climate is appealing.

Business growth is being reshaped in places like Colorado and Utah and North Carolina and Tennessee and certain cities like Boise and Phoenix and Oklahoma City and Austin.

I hate to say it but the political and social climate in places like Portland and Minneapolis aren’t going to attract people to move there.

Thank-you for proving my point. I rest my case!

Looks like we are all over the map on this thread....may as well add this.  The Motor City Madman seems to have caught cat scratch fever....Thoughts and prayers.

Ted Nugentβ€”the right-wing singer who’s spent the past year boring on about his ridiculous coronavirus and anti-vaccine conspiracy theoriesβ€”has announced that he’s fallen badly sick with COVID-19. Since the pandemic began last year, Nugent has described it as a β€œscam,” ridiculed mask-wearers as β€œsheep,” and proudly announced that he would never take a coronavirus vaccine. But he changed his tune in a Facebook live on Monday when he complained to viewers: β€œI have had flu symptoms for the last 10 days. I thought I was dying. Just a clusterfuck. I was tested positive today. I got the Chinese shit. I’ve got a stuffed up head, body aches. My God, what a pain in the ass. I literally could hardly crawl out of bed the last few days.”

The People leaving CA in droves is a fantasy. Some BUSINESSES did, but people are staying and our biggest issue is ridiculous real estate prices more than taxes.

He posed the question not too long ago why there wasn’t any shutdowns for COVIDs 1-18. Such a genius.

He was quoting Trump with that Republicans can't win thing...

It’s interesting that many of the so called COVID19 non believers tend to get sick and get it worse than most.  Funny how that works.

Of those that I know, a number either downplayed the risks or were anti mask and it’s doing exactly what it should - transmit easily and infect and hit those harder that are either older or with comorbidities.  Basically everything the scientists and health experts stated.

The anti vaccine crowd should take notice but they are smarter and tougher anyway. So I hear.

Yup! Plus, you guys are grandfather into your property tax rate. Wisconsin property taxes can explode on you over time.

The neighbor next door with three young kids who bought his house a year or two ago probably pays double what we do as we've been there 27 years.... I know a lot of people hate Prop 13, but it sure stabilizes property taxes.

The grandfathered tax rates are one of the primary reasons California can’t meet their budgetary and financial obligations.

For almost 50 years people could simply β€œtransfer” home ownership to their children without having to settle up on the present value of the property.   That included commercial and rental property as well.

California is just wonderful. Please stay there with your vote.

I get mine from a real source...The Onion.  Not too far off the mark either.

TALLAHASSEE, FLβ€”In an effort to streamline the state’s electoral process, Florida Republicans introduced a new bill to the legislature Thursday that would establish ballotless voting in disenfranchised communities. β€œWe’ve eliminated the complex and insecure process of casting a ballot so that voters from underserved communities don’t have to worry about going to the polls or mailing anything in,” said co-sponsor Rep. Chris Sprowls of the popular proposal, which had already garnered unanimous support among Republicans in the House and Senate. β€œCome voting day, voters will be able to walk right up to the doors of their polling place, then turn around. No lines, no worry. We’ve listened to your concerns, and are confident that ballotless voting will address them.” At press time, Sprowls added that the bill would also help fight voter fraud by eliminating the likelihood of votes being erroneously counted.
