I missed the game. Some observations from the replay:

1. The Packers' pass protection was very good. After the first series, Flynn was never under any serious pressure until Suh got past EDS in the 4th quarter.

2. The Lions pass protection was just as good. The first time the Packers got after Stafford (Bishop on a blitz), he threw a pick. So'oto showed some good ability on his sack on Stafford. No rush to speak of otherwise.

3. Not to discredit Flynn's epic day, but: one TD was a broken-play dumpoff/screen, one was a free play jump ball that Jordy went up and took, and another was all Jordy (with the stiff-arm). The other 3 TD's were all nice plays by Flynn (although no one told me the Lions dropped an INT right before the awesome throw down the sidelines to Jones).

4. This game was just what Finley's doctor ordered. James Jones's too. Both had great games.

5. Stafford and his receivers are playing really well together. The Lions also got screwed by the refs in this game. Kharma-wise, I'm not at all sure I want to see them in Lambeau January 15.
hey Pistol...I know what you're saying...but, I'm not sure how the Lions got screwed besides the one missed call?

the only major blunder I remember was not calling the one sideline pass a touchdown....without any challenges, it did cost the Lions a -4 point differential.

The ref probably should've called looked for help or called it a TD and then let the automatic review take over from there. But since the call was incomplete, Schwantz needed to challenge.

Agreed, tough call against the Lions and if the situation was reversed. I would be ticked as a Packer fan.

but...other than that, I'm not sure the Lions got screwed by the refs anymore than we did.
My thoughts:

--Bush gets a lot of flak, but he does occasionally make plays (another INT) but his BIGGEST FLAW is missed assignments: TWO big Lion plays due to him going to the wrong receiver (one someone else picked up) and letting another Lion roam free.

--Flynn was awesome. Seriously, with all the Luck hype, by the time the draft starts rolling around Matt will be the other BIG TICKET QB that somehow, someway, TT will manage to maneuver onto a team that will be mutually beneficial. I know I and others who believe Flynn is a winner and a franchise QB have been chastised on this board, but I go back to that game I watched where he led LSU to the national championship and I thought that guy is a winner. SHOCKED that we got him in the 7th round. His poise, decision making, ability to throw accurately out of the pocket will help him in the right team. Sure hope it's an AFC team.

Dude was also down on the fumble.

And a couple of plays later an interception put the Lions right back were they would have been.

That was a weird play (the fumble on the kickoff). The ref must have seen something, but nothing in replay could be considered conclusive.

The ruling I don't understand is Johnson's catch out of bounds. If he goes to the ground and loses control only to regain control....isn't he catching the ball out of bounds?
It appeared as though Young was bobbling the ball, albeit slightly, on that non-TD catch. I initially thought it was a TD and if they had ruled it a TD it probably would have stayed a TD. Packers did probably catch a break on that one.

As for getting screwed, don't forget the Packers got hosed on that interception by So'Oto (or was it Francois?). The one thing that play was not was a compeleted pass for the Lions. Lions scored a TD just a few plays later.

Also the Calvin Johnson catch that MM challenged was really bad. No way was that a receptoin.

The ref crew just all around sucked the entire game.

+1

Agree totally with this. I fully expect TT will do the best he can to find Flynn a good match for a team, plus get some compensation for the Packers. The Packers' brass (TT) has shown they are a team that takes care of of their own by re-signing core players. Even though this is a different situation, Flynn has been a good soldier and, like AR12 previously, used his time as a back-up wisely. Now he is ready to "leave the nest" as a solid NFL QB, and TT will find him a home. I like the scenario painted in an earlier post of the TT/Seattle connection with Schneider. Wouldn't be surprised to see Flynn a Seahawk when all is said and done.
