I am sure at some time in some different era, a lot of the NFL rules made some sort of sense. But IMO there are some NFL rules that just don't seem needed anymore. Or at least they should be updated and modified. These guys are too well-coached, well-educated and too well-paid to benefit or be hindered by some antiquated rule. Plus I believe the over abundance of rules regarding Pass Interference, Complete or Incomplete Catches, Possession and the infamous "Down By Contact" rules are just some other that mystify and frustrate me. A rule that is gone and I am glad, is the Tuck Rule. Stupid rule.
One rule that I hate is that the refs must be informed when there is a tackle eligible play -AND- then the refs announce it over the PA system for the entire stadium to hear. I guess I can understand reporting to the refs. But then for the refs to announce it?? ...come on, the defensive unit (players and coaches) has to be able to figure out that on their own.
