Buffalo's defense has been astoundingly bad over the past two seasons. The fact that they didn't want to carry his relatively small salary says it all.
They released George Wilson too. Both are 31 but can still play some. Buffalo is blowing the whole thing up. Barnett was moved to the weak side when Buffalo went "back" to the 4-3 and was much better than AJ Hawk and Wilson was solid too. I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas goes after Barnett's versatility. Both are good guys.
I always enjoyed watching him get swallowed up in a sea of blockers.

Nick Barnett...all the bravado of Darren Sharper, but only about 60% of the talent.
I thought he was gonna be one of the best MLBs in the game after his rookie year. In hindsight, I think my judgement was skewed because I was comparing that to the atrocious play the Packers had at the position previous to Barnett coming here.

I thought Barnett was very good in 2007 on the run to the NFC Championship game. That said, 2007 was 6 years ago. He got dinged up in 2008 and 2010 and is now going into I think his 11th season.
I liked Barnett more than most here, but I totally agree that I'd be pretty hesitant to say he's anything better than what the Pack has right now. He's fairly close to done if not completely cooked.

He was a guy who looked pretty good at times when the talent around him was solid, and when the talent around him was bad (Slowik's season, 2 out of the 3 seasons under Sanders), he was awful.
Draft & Develop
I thought he always was inept. Every time he "guessed" where the play was coming he attacked & the play was going the other way. He was clueless & always overacted if he did happen to make a play...like Finley.

Barnett's always made more plays than Hawk, more sacks, picks, forced fumbles, TDs, passes defensed, more average tackles/season, etc. Hawk had one more sack this season, that's it, and no other big plays and this was Barnett's worst year for big plays.

I would have been curious to see a Bishop/Barnett combo but at this point Barnett's older also (though only two years older than Hawk who runs like he's teh elder by half a decade).

We need ILB that can hit, be nasty, and are fast. I don't think Barnett is any of those things anymore. I agree with Boris Draft and develop and not sign retreads.

Kevin Minter, LSU would fit the need. But he is likely a late 1st, early 2nd pick.
