just passed the first quarter of the season with game 41 and the crew has a 5.5 game lead over the Cards (who play a DH today)

Chicago Cubs1325.34211.57-116-14153158-5Lost 12-810.4

the Brewers fast start, combined with the fact that the division has been mediocre at best (no one else is over .500)

has our playoff chances at 52.3 % by ESPN.

If you had to guess how this would play out by the end of the year, what % would you place

on each of the teams winning the division?

You still have to figure STLouis is gonna be in the thick of things up until the end. Reds probably too.

Im still not sold we can continue to play at this level but if no one else gets hot we wont need to.

My % breakdown at the first quarter would have to go:

StLouis       34

Milwaukee   32

Cincinnati    25

Pittsburgh     8

Chicago         1

as we prepare to play our 81st game and hit the official midpoint of the regular season the brew crew is 48-32 and on pace for mid to upper 90s win total. We're 5 games ahead of St Louis and it's been a fairly consistent lead the entire first half.

now the big question is will one of these mediocre NlCentral teams get hot after the all star break?

"With a 7-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park on Thursday night, manager Ron Roenicke’s Brew Crew completed the first 81 games of the schedule with a 49-32 record. That’s the best first half in the 45-year history of the franchise -- ahead of the 1979 George Bamberger team and the 2007 Ned Yost squad, both of which failed to make the postseason after going 47-34 through their first 81."

The Brewers have been in first place for 84 of 88 days this season and enter the second half with a 5Β½-game lead over St. Louis. History says that bodes well for July, August and September.

The Brewers have watched what was a 6Β½-game lead in the NL Central on July 1 completely evaporate. General manager Doug Melvin is consistently downplaying the idea of getting major help on the trade market, though the team could definitely use a left-handed bat and a powerful right-handed reliever to help win what is now a four-way race for the division. -- Ryan Topp (@RDTopp), Disciples of Uecker

40 games left. Gonna survive the July sigh and August dogfest

67-55   2 game lead over St,  2.5 over  Pit

At 6.5 games back the Reds are realistically out of it.

Not  insurmountable but with 3 teams ahead of them,

Cincy isn't gonna do it. If fiers keeps pitching this well,

does he stay up when Garza returns?

Need to see more production from Braun and Segura.

6 weeks left, let's finish this

7 games left with them head to head that could easily make or break us

4 teams in the wild card discussion, including the Pirates.

a post season berth is highly likely, barring a flame out. but that ddivision title is sooo much more important.

Those 7 games will make or break the Crew
