Big fucking deal. the Lions have sucked for years.  They had  1st choice after going 0-16 and still sucked for years.   The curse of Bobby Layne will go on forever.    B ut you go be a Lion fan.

In the last 31 years, the Lions have had a top 5 RB all-time (Barry Sanders), a top 10 WR all time (Calvin Johnson), and recently had a QB more than good enough to win a Super Bowl with and haven't even won a single playoff game. They've also had a HOF defensive tackle in N. Suh along with Stafford and Calvin Johnson.

The Fords aren't awful people either, it's just they seem to be inept at hiring the right people to run the football operations.

The Chiefs make the Packers look like a middle school team.

Yep.  I am so glad Mahomes is in the AFC.  He was missing 2 of his top receivers tonight and it didn’t even matter.

The AFC in general is loaded with young stud QBs.  Burrow, Mahomes, Allen.  The 2nd tier guys like Tua and Herbert are really good as well.  Crazy that Russell Wilson is average st best in that conference, maybe age and injury have caught up with him.

So I'm watching the Vikings getting their comeuppance and CBS switches to the Bengals-Steelers. Why?!! Why?!! Vikings aren't "done" yet!

The CBS affiliate in Minneapolis stayed with the vikings-Cowboys game until the bitter, inevitable end. Hometown team thing, I guess. All those lovely shots of Minneapolis, in the evening, with a few purple lights scattered about and bars emptying in the 3rd quarter...

If the Packers would have gotten the TE position right at any point the last decade, it would have made a huge difference. Mahomes is a first ballot HOFer playing with a first ballot HOF TE. Brady's stats +/- Gronk the last decade are very different. Jimmy G can always look for Kittle. TEs that excel in the running game and the passing game change how teams game plan for you and get you better individual matchups.

The one year since Finley they had a very good TE was 2016 and Cook only played half the year. That coincided with running the table to make the playoffs and getting all the way to the NFC title game with arguably the weakest Packer team that's gotten to the NFC title game in the Favre/Rodgers era. Cook was a beast in that stretch of games after he came back from an injury.

Instead, we've gotten to watch RichRod, Sternberger, DeGuara, and M. Lewis.

Tonyan was decent before the ACL tear, but I wouldn't consider him a dual threat TE.

Easier said than done.  Every team is looking for "that" TE.  It shows why they're so hard to find.  There are probably 3 or 4 guys at TE that make that big of an impact on their offense.  GB drafted some higher round guys that didn't work out.  RD1 TE's don't seem to have a high % of success either.

Which is a head scratcher as to why on earth did Detoilet trade "Hock" (as the Spermhead fans call him) and to a division rival no less?

It will be an interesting offseason for many reasons, but what the Packers do at TE and WR will be among the more interesting things to watch.

The Packers have 19 free agents after the year. This includes 3 of their top 5 WRs and 3 of their 4 TEs. Watson and Doubs are back and DeGuara has a 1.3 million dollar cap hit next year (they do save a million by waiving him).

So, it's possible that they may need to find a whole new TE group and at least 3 WRs.

Sportrac shows only 3 of their pending free agents being "good enough" to project contracts for. These are Jenkins (Projected 4 years and 56 million), Lazard (3 for 33 million), and Tonyan (3 for 28 million). I'd say a big no thanks to Lazard and Tonyan at those levels. Jenkins is not as sure a decision as it was before his ACL injury, but I think they'll prioritize him.

And they don't have a ton of money to work with.

What they offer Jenkins will depend on what their doctors think the prognosis is for his knee moving forward.  Is he struggling this year because he still has some recovering to do or is this year's performance what he can expect moving forward?

I thought the Hockensen trade was a bit surprising too.  He wasn't tearing it up yet in DET but you'd think there is still enough to work with to expect him to get better this year and next.  DET must have decided the draft capital was going to be worth more this offseason.

I also thought he last big name TE's coming out of ALA were going to be game busters.  That hasn't been the case so far.  Tough position to evaluate.

With so many teams playing "cover 2" it really helps to have a TE that can run and split the seam. Almost every really good TE in the last 30 years has run the 40 in under 4.7. That what was so intriguing about Tonyan. He ran in the 4.5s at his pro day. We saw some of that prior to knee injury. Right now we don't have a TE to threaten the seam or get any YAC.

Hockensen is a solid receiving TE but he’s below average as a run blocker.  He’s also due something like 13M next year.

A lot of people assume Minnesota won that trade but in the long run I’m not so sure.

Detroit is doing a lot of good things with personnel moves and accumulating draft capital and managIng the cap.  I still think Campbell is a bit of a meathead, but honestly the Loins might become a force to be reckoned with.  Especially if they can figure out the QB situation.
