It was to honor Bill Cofield, 1st black head coach in the Big Ten. These were the unis they wore in 1976, Cofields 1st season.

The Red jerseys we originally for another game, but the guys liked them a lot. The called O$U and orchestrated the switch. They decided Black History month shouldn't be celebrated in one game, so they plan on wearing the throwbacks all month. This probably caught Adidas by surprise, since they did not make white throwbacks.
