Melvin's words

"Corey will be in the mix," Melvin said. "It's just a decision where we'll have to weigh the risk factor involved with someone coming off an injury that hasn't played all year. But his name is in the list of names that we'll consider."

"It's not something we're going to worry about. Knowing Scooter can play the way he did, he probably has an edge right now.

Probably outfield is where we have a trade piece if we want to trade to maybe fill another hole."

"Rocket Fuel malt liquor. Damn!"

It will be really interesting to see what this team looks like on Opening Day next year.

I like how the pitching staff came together toward the end of the year especially with the younger guys like Peralta and Thornburg playing well.  Estrada and Gallardo were pretty solid after they returned from their injuries, and Lohse was consistently good most of the year.

Then you have guys like Scooter and Khris Davis vying for more playing time and maybe Hart back in the mix and all of a sudden there's a lot to be optimistic about the Brewers next year.   They can certainly build around guys like Braun and Segura and Gomez.

Hopefully Cano bolts the Yankees in Free Agency and they feel a real need to trade for Weeks.

Can't imagine there is anyone else in the universe that can afford Cano.

in other news, Brewers infielders Mat Gamel and Taylor Green are on waivers today and would come off Milwaukee’s crowded 40-man roster on Thursday if they clear, according to a baseball source.

So I read a little in Cliff Lee- he was rumored to be on the block, and all the Phillies wanted in return was 3-4 top prospects and all of the $70M left on his deal. Considering the Brewers may not have 3-4 top prospects at any level, I guess that's why no deal. But they sight exactly get a ton of interest in that price tag.

But that would be the guy I would ask about. Maybe the price has come down..)

They,ve got $80 million tied up already in guaranteed contracts for 2014 and with lower revenue from last year to work with, there's little money left to play in the big boys game of Free Agency.

Agree Tuna.  The big question is how will Dougie free up money?  Rickie will likely cost money to shuffle.  Could Yo be another salary cut?  It would be easier to trade him today than next year.

Clayton Kershaw signs a 7 year deal worth $215.  $30.7M per year.

If any pitcher is worth it, it's him.  But really, the Dodgers are getting >$200M a year on local TV rights alone, so it's all funny money....

Over/under on Reynolds and Francisco combining for over 200 strikeouts (if they platoon, that is).

How can they not platoon, neither is an everyday player, and Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooverbay is nearly a zombie as well.  I guess both can back up third in case of an injury, but if both are on the field at the same time, at least one of them is facing a pitcher they cannot hit.  Unless one of them can handle backing up in the OF, that robs you of another INF bench bat.

There will be bombs though, there will be bombs.
