Doctor Zhivago dies at 83

I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of the movie Doctor Zhivago, because the movie starts with what is the epilogue of the book, giving the game away. (Nothing wrong with the movie is Sharif's fault.) Sharif was also one of the stars of Lawrence of Arabia, and played Fanny Brice's (Barbra Streisand) gangster boyfriend Nicky Arnstein in Funny Girl.

I think I'd have to say my favorite Sharif movie is Juggernaut, in which is plays the captain of a well-past-its-prime transatlantic liner that's been sabotaged by a mad bomber in the middle of the Atlantic; it's the job of bomb disposal expert Richard Harris to defuse the bombs. It's suspenseful, with the bomb plot going awry in an unexpected way, and has some wonderful dark humor.
