I'm sorry you feel that way. I guess my view of this forum is that it is a community and while we share our passion about the Packers, there are times when we use it as a sounding board to express our thoughts and frustrations related to other events, like 9-11. I will understand if the mods lock it, but there is always the choice to ignore.
I hear you, Russ. This story has my stomach tied up in knots. And yet here this tragic story sits, right next to a thread about best places to drop a deuce.

This is one of those instances where I wish we had the power to turn back time, like Superman. I am sure there are many of us who would like a moment alone with the soulless a-hole who did this. I love kids - have three of my own and dozens of nieces and nephews. I can't fathom how anyone could be sick enough to harm a young child.

That's.....insane. Think about all the goofiness and shenanigans in places like the Middle East and they can't hold a candle. We're #1 Ugh!

The story now is 18 childern murdered and 9 adults. Just evil
But Phil Mackey is wrong about only 18 childern killed in school shooting in the rest of the world since Columbine, the best I can say about his report is that he is not paying attention to news from the rest of the world
Politely and respectfully disagree, Orlando. Those photos help bring this type of tragedy home. I hate seeing them because they are so heart-wrenching, but they, far more than words, bring the tragedy home. A picture is worth a thousand words, and it's true. So many things have been changed for the better and people helped all because of photos. Are there vulture, voyeuristic photogs? Absolutely. But the vast majority are respectful and caring. Paparazzi, now those folks I can do without.
It's pretty easy to get desensitized to news about violence here in the US as it seems like almost every day there's something bad that gets reported.

But this story was a standout in a bad way. To think of 18 Kindergarten to 4th grade kids gunned down is almost too much to bear. I know I shed some tears when I first heard about it. I don't know any of those families and probably never will, but this event still affected me. This is a tough day for anyone who has any sort of feelings of empathy for other human beings.

I agree about the NRA. I own several hunting guns and will never give them up until I am too old or dead. Nor should Americans lose their rights to have guns for hunting and sport.

But the NRA is way off course when it comes to extremely lethal guns and the supposed rights of general Americans to acquire such weapons with war-time firepower used by soldiers and armed forces all over the world.

How many more horrific incidents like this have to happen before someone gets enough guts to stand up to the NRA and get some effective legislation passed to begin to really control firearms?
