What if I told you a team had the most dynamic player in baseball, kid could do it all and does night in and night out.  And this team has a generational hitter in his prime.

Then I told you that team is 38-49 and only kept out of the divisional cellar by the Oakland A's.

The Angels have what might be the two best players in baseball right now, and almost nothing else.

Rendon's contract almost makes Yelich's look like a bargain. He's got 4 more years after this left on a contract that pays him 245 million over 7 years. He hasn't been very good when's he been healthy and now he's out for the rest of the year.

Their other big money guy is Snydergaard who they are paying 21 million to this year. He hasn't been terrible (ERA of 4.00 and WHIP of 1.2), but it was questionable to give a guy that much money that had appeared in 2 games in 2020-21.

They aren't going anywhere this year and it's compounded by the fact that they don't really have anyone to deal for future prospects at the deadline that anyone will really want (the typical older veteran on the final year of a contract that can add some pop off the bench or cover some playoff innings for you).

Their farm system is terrible (28th ranked) and the only real assets they have are Trout and Ohtani - so there isn't any way to get out of the situation they are in without dealing one of them.

They won't do it, but I was them I'd keep Ohtani and put Trout up for bid. He's probably a top 20 player all time and was top 5 in the MVP voting the first full nine years of his career (2012-20) and is likely to be top 5 again this year. But he's played in one playoff series in his career (and has one playoff hit) and they Angels haven't finished over 500 since 2015. Get a huge haul of prospects for him and start over.
