Packers Film Study: The Slant Route vs. Cover 2

It’s amazing how quickly “group think” spreads among Green Bay Packers fans. Start an idea rolling, and it becomes hard to stop, whether it’s credible or not. Such is the case with the recent calls for more slant routes in the Packers’ passing game. continue
Excellent look with clips from the Bears game to break down what made the slants successful last week. Well worth the read.

Packers Playbook (aka Hobbjective Analysis): Week 15 at Chicago Bears

So special teams is one of those things that no fan knows about but we all love to gripe about. For instance, other than the kicker, punter, long snapper and gunner, do you know the name of any other position? I sure don’t but I will yell at the screen when the guy misses a block. This is essentially what happened during the “punt, pass and puke” play as quoted by Drew Olsen on Green and Gold Today. We all know it was a terrible play, and head coach Mike McCarthy and special teams coach Shawn Slocum both got plenty of heat for the call. But why call the play in the first place?

Total View: Packers vs. Bears

1:36, 2nd quarter — After the teams trade three and outs, the Bears get the ball back at their 37. On the first play, Cutler tries for Devin Hester and hits Casey Hayward right in the chest. Hayward returns his sixth pick of the year to the Bears’ 26.

The Packers’ rush package of Frank Zombo, Dezman Moses, Mike Neal and B.J. Raji did a good job to squeeze the pocket, which appeared to set off an alarm in Cutler’s head, and Hayward has the knack of always turning to look for the ball.

The Packers score five plays later to make the score 14-7 at half.

After converting another 3rd down with a circle route to Cobb, Rodgers finds James Jones on the square in at the goal line. When Greg Jennings clears the middle of the field by running a post from the inner slot, Jones simply runs to the goal line and then drives underneath the coverage of D.J. Moore. I have seen Rodgers hesitate to throw to this route this season, but he has no such issue here and throws it in there.

Packers Film Study: B.J. Raji peaking late in the season

@MJEversoll.

Pro Football Focus credited Raji with a +4.4 grade against the Bears–his best PFF grade since the NFC Championship during the 2010 season.

The box score only gives Raji credit for one solo tackle. No sacks, no forced fumbles. Just one tackle.

But looking beyond the numbers and watching the tape, it’s impossible to ignore Raji’s impact on Sunday’s win over the Bears.

Let’s take a look at four plays this past Sunday in which Raji made his presence felt.

Jersey Al suffers from "smartest guy in the room" syndrome. As far as the writer and his assertations, pretty well known that most teams were rolling to version of cover/tampa 2 specifically against the Packers simply because to the success of the past couple of seasons. Also the reason why the Packers always seem to struggle against the Bears.

Hence the need for a run game to develop more when you lose your top WRs to outside routes. All very lovely but Al (and writer) needs to shut his smughole.
Packiderm if you happen to be using the No Script add on you might try using the "temporarily allow all of this page option". I was having the same issue and that fixed it.

The changes to the video section this year have been awful for NFL.com and Packers.com.

Don't I remember Al coming to x4 a couple of years or so ago, and got tore down by some of our posters?

Yes, the fine people here at x4 didn't exactly give jersey al a...shall we say... "warm welcome."
Almost everyone was and is cordial here. It was a small group of selfish people doing their same old tired schtick. Aaron Rodgers could post here and they'd find a way to drive him off.

Sometimes I wonder if the coaches and players know what da heck they are doing. Sheeit just watch NFL network and ESPN and listen to some of the former players and coaches - some of them too are pretty freakin silly! Anyway, I see no problems fans voicing their takes, especially in forums such as this. Otherwise, what da heck is this forum for?

If you're going to write and go "expert" expect other people to challenge some of those assertions, especially when you insult the whole of a fan base.

Quit being a ****ing pussy.

That's because Nagler is a self promoting crybaby (and no, I'm not directing this at you, just explaining) Hey, I'm all for trying to get your writing career off the ground but quit being a bitch when your methods and opinions are challenged.

Hell, we do people a favor by putting them through the wringer of the interwebs and learning some lessons. You're welcome Nagler.
