+ The pre-game speech from Woodson on the jumbotron with everyone holding up their cell phone lights. I hope they showed that on the TV broadcast. Was pretty chilling in person.
- The jackass in section 131 on the other side of the tunnel. Was being a dick the entire first half. Was escorted out in the 2nd half. Then after the game ended another guy was escorted out and the only excuse he had for his behavior was THIS IS AMERICA!!
If only there was someone out there who saw Gary for what he was from the beginning....
AJ Dillon made a nice catch, but otherwise he needs to really step up. I want jones to have a partner to share the load
Josh Myers is good. Dillon is softer than his size. Need to see if Stokes can tackle. Gary is whatever.
@ChilliJon posted:Dillon is softer than his size.
Don't make us regret letting Williams go. Dillon had a couple of games where he was an absolute battering ram. Keep it up. Williams wasn't flashy but he was consistent.
Also...for the record, Mike Rodney is an arrogant tool.
+ Offense can only get better and will get better as the Oline gels.
- Defense is noticeably worse than last year.
So much for going all in. Wait, that was never the plan.

The best personnel adjustment in the second half was adding Mr. Rain and Mr. Wet Ball to the defense. https://t.co/sX8Sgx7v1j

Considering the amount of draft capital and FA acquisitions on the D side of the ball, that shouldn't be the case so the bitching and moaning is valid.
The only starters on this D that are not FA pick ups or high round picks are the ILB's and DL outside of Clark. So 3 to 4 players out of 11-13 (Counting Gary / Stokes as a starter with the heavy rotation)
I just think it’s premature to start putting labels on this defense. The Lions aren’t a bad offensive team, and the Packers defense shut them down and got 2 TOs in the second half. They played well last night.
That don’t make em good, but I don’t think they’re a finished product, either. If they are, sure, it’s a disappointment. But as you pointed out, there’s a pretty fair amount of talent on the D. I am not ready to call the ball just yet…
Gonna learn a lot in the next couple of weeks….
What's the difference in personnel? Campbell and Stokes. No Z, shitty DC and more UDFAs.
Rocket to the stars.
The real question is this defense a playoff quality defense? I think that's a pretty clear no.
I kinda thought Jared Goff shutdown Detroit in the 2nd half...
+ Hill breaking the tackle when Burks tried taking him down on his first long kick return

Williams loves football. And he loved GB. Read the room Gute. Not sure Dillon feels the same push Williams brought vs Hill.
And I like Hill. A lot.

The LIons may have the worst WR Corps in the league.
Their lead RB was injured.
The Oline is iffy at best.
Jared Goff is a below average QB.
And they were playing their 2nd game in a new offensive system.
The Bears with a rookie QB may give them a run for their $ but this is a bottom 2 offense in the NFC.

The Lions have a really good TE.
Goff was a stud runningback last night
@FLPACKER posted:Finally realized he does not presently possess enough speed to play on the outside?
No, finally told Barry to not be stupid and put him in the receiver's face every play. When the corners went basically straight press, the pass coverage tightened considerably. Stokes also looked better in press.
-Campbell was brutal in coverage, so he fits in already. The pick was a bad throw right in his chest but he got abused all night and ended up on a receiver far too often. Except for Z being out, I'd probably rather have Preston in coverage.

I agree with this. It's tough to get a solid judgment on guys like Preston Smith and Rashan Gary when they look good on one play, then look like dancing ragdolls on the very next play. There's no consistency.
They also as a group still look really confused half the time, not watching the ball, and focusing on the guy blocking them too much, and not containing the edge. And blowing assignments in the secondary. All of which point to coaching and/or still figuring out the new defense.
The DL is the obvious worry-spot right now, no matter who the coach or what the scheme. Lancaster looked awful last night, but then today I saw his snap counts were about half of everyone else's. I'm wondering if they benched him in the second half? Slaton only had 6 snaps and more tackles (1) than Lancaster, who had 18 snaps (0 tackles, 1 assist) and Keke who had 32 snaps (0 tackles, 1 assist). Might be time to get Slaton more playing time and also suit Heflin up.
The Packers were as lucky as they were good last night.
For as breath-taking beautiful as ARod's passes to Adams and Funyuns were, he had some passes that were off-target (a couple to MVS and one that was behind Adams come to mind). I don't think it's cause for concern, but I'd like to see better.
OL was marginally better. It's not going to get any easier for them anytime soon, but as long as there is some improvement week to week, I'll be happy.
There's a lot of football I don't know about (in spite of what I think), but I wonder why Hill can't get a few snaps at RB. And in the same vein, why not Can O' Dirt?
Of course, I'm not saying either should be starting, but it seems to me there are situations where they can rotate in for a play or 2.
Good or bad, Slaton needs more snaps. If nothing else, to keep KC's snap counts down. It's a long season, and those guys take a beating.
Ditto for Stokes. I seriously can't see he would be any worse than King, and likely would be better because his speed can overcome some mistakes.

Never mind I looked up the depth chart. Lowry and Keke are the starters at DE, with Lancaster and Heflin backing them up.

From Studs/Duds Packers vs Lions:
Stud:
DL Kenny Clark: The Pro Bowl nose tackle really turned it up a notch in the second half. He got knockbacks in the run game and was disruptive as a rusher. In fact, he led the team in quarterback pressures with five. Left guard Jonah Jackson and center Frank Ragnow couldn’t keep him blocked over the final two quarters. The whole Packers defense operates much differently when he’s winning reps consistently.
^^^ Once again, Clark doesn’t get nearly enough credit for what he does and the blockers he eats up. Preston Smith, Gary, Campbell or whoever else need to find ways to get to the QB.
And comsidering he usually lines up with the Double L’s, even more impressive

5 balls hit the ground the entire game.
We need to brace ourselves for a rude awakening when the guy is gone

+++ We found Stokes can play. This should be a relief to a lot of King critics. Our Offense got rolling in the second half. Rodgers was in rhythm with Davantae, Tonyan and Jones. Aaron Jones is a player, but what's new? The best RB in the game, IMO. We may have found a solid punter in Boroquez. Runyon looked good at LG, between Jenkins and Myers. What happens when Bakh comes back? Will Runyon take over for Newman? I doubt it. He certainly won't take over for Jenkins, either. Is his spot on the team going to be as a solid back up? Kylin Hill averaged 30 yards on his returns. I thought he was going to score on one of them. Another great find for the Packers! I like that he played at RB for a few plays, as well. MLF is 7-1 in our Division since coming to the Packers. Let's sweep our Division, this season!
--- Our offense did't start to click until the second half. We matched Detroit, score for score, in the first half, but we could have done a lot better there. King got burned for around 50 yards against Cephus on that one play, but had a nice pass break up later in the end zone. Still, King got burned, again. King and Stokes on the outside, with Jaire in the slot, seemed to work for our secondary. Shouldn't this have all been sorted out in camp? Barry continues to dull my enthusiasm. It's early yet, so time will tell if MLF screwed the pooch, by hiring him. I want to see more effective pass rushing from our D Line. No one seemed to break through the Detroit O Line. On one play Detroit O Linemen were standing up, looking for Packers to block, only to find no one rushing the passer. We need more from Gary and Preston Smith, and especially until Zadarious comes back. Same goes for Kenny Clark, Keke and TJ Slaton. That's all for now.
Seems the team needed 4 and a half preseason games to get ready.

When you see it on paper is when it really hits you. They should use the shit emoji instead of names for impact.
+ Much needed victory over a division opponent.
- Win didn't really tell me much. Serious concerns about the defense remain and the Niners will be a much better measuring stick.
Per Demovsky, the miscommunication between King and Stokes that led to the TD was on King. Shocking, I know. Get this guy out of here before he poisons the rookie.
Let's slow the roll on Stokes for a sec. He was going against a bad bunch of WR's, King comments not withstanding.
Dillon soft? Good grief. His best games were when there was a plan for him and he got enough touches to get in the groove. He has to learn how to impact as a complementary back.
