OFFENSE

QB (3): Rodgers, Harrell, Coleman
Cut: none
Comments: Coleman shows too much potential to risk cutting, passing through waivers to put on Practice Squad (PS). Still would prefer acquiring Colt McCoy from Browns at nominal cost, having him as a more talented and experienced #2. But if Thompson and McCarthy truly prefer Harrell, have to defer to them. They were certainly right about Flynn in similar situation.

HB (3): Starks, Green, Saine
Cut: Tyler (PS), Bennett
Comments: No real surprises, Kuhn again acts as 4th HB. Tyler to PS.

FB (1): Kuhn
Cut: Cooper (PS), Hoese
Comments: Cooper has great size, interesting running skills, provides good depth on PS.

WR (6): G. Jennings, Nelson, J. Jones, Cobb, Driver, Borel
Cut: Gurley, Moss (PS), Boykin, Smithson, Gilleylen
Comments: Surprisingly, Borel seems to be a bit ahead of Gurley. That could easily flip over next few weeks. Moss raw but exciting PS addition.

TE (3): Finley, DJ Williams, Taylor
PUP: Quarless
Cut: Crabtree, Lair, Bostick, Cosby
Comments: In mild surprise, Crabtree cut. He loses out to combo of Packers desire to keep 3 QB's, 6 WR's. But with Quarless due to come back my mid-season, position remains well-stocked.

OL (8): OT's Bulaga, Newhouse, Sherrod, G's Sitton, Lang, Dominguez, C's Saturday, Dietrich-Smith
Cut: OT's Datko (PS), Allard, McCabe, Taylor, G's Brooks (PS), Barclay, Van Roten, C's Draheim (PS), Genus
Comments: Sherrod makes it back in time to provide quality depth behind both Newhouse and Bulaga. Dietrich-Smith first up at C and G. G Dominguez makes it as 8th OL. Depth provided by keeping three rookies on PS: OT Datko, G Brooks, C Draheim.

DEFENSE

DL (6): Raji, Pickett, Worthy, Daniels, Wilson, Muir
Suspended: Neal, Hargrove
Cut: Merling, Guy (PS), Wynn, J. Jones
Comments: With Packers committed to playing so much nickel and dime, 6 DL plently -- especially with 2 DL eventually eligible to come back from suspension. Jones, Wynn easiest cuts: Jones an unknown who's injured, Wynn small for 3-4 and marginally talented. Muir a mild surprise making team, but has some "juice" and is only one with size (6-2/322) to be back-up NT. Then again, Pickett could play there if Raji went down, but not ideal set-up. Capers/Trgovac seem to like CJ Wilson (6-3/290) in base/run-stuffing role at DE. He makes it over disappointing Merling (6-5/315) and Guy (6-4/304), both who are bigger and I thought would prove better. Maybe still will. Guy eligible for PS, so give him another year to grow there. While tough decisions when Neal, Hargrove return, nice problem to have. Early prediction would be that Hargove replaces Muir, Neal replaces Wilson. Both should be upgrades. Seems Jolly won't be reinstated any time soon, which seems unfair to him.

LB (10): OLB's Matthews, Perry, Moses, Walden, ILB's Bishop, Hawk, DJ Smith, Manning, Lattimore, Francois
Cut: OLB's So'oto, Jones, Zombo
Comments: On outside, Moses proving to be the real deal. Walden seems to still be very much in Packers' plans, could still possibly start over Perry. So'oto seemingly hasn't improved any year-to-year, but emergence of Moses makes that a wash. Zombo unfortunately can't get healthy. Jones has had enough chances, has proven to be at best average. On inside, Smith and Manning locks behind starters. Both Lattimore and Francois can play inside or outside. Lattimore also sticks due to speed and Special Teams (ST). Francois big and played pretty well when needed last year.

DB (10): CB's T. Williams, House, Hayward, Shields, Bush, Ross, S's Woodson, Burnett, MD Jennings, McMillian
Cut: CB's Merrill, Turner, S's Richardson (PS), Levine, Pellerin
Comments: At CB, first five easy choices. Ross has decent size/speed, just makes it as 6th CB. At S, Woodson, Burnett, Jennings and McMillian locks. Rookie FA Richardson's size and speed lands him on PS -- or, if he shows well enough, makes Packers keep him as 10th best DB over Ross.

Any nitpicky reply I had was over the player #52 and #53 on the roster. It will be interesting to see who performs over the next 3 weeks between Crabtree, Borel, and Coleman. They are also on the bubble when PUP players come back in the middle of the year. If Sherrod goes on PUP or Newhouse's injury is significant they all get a reprieve. If Gurley blocks one kick in a preseason game, it will be really interesting.

Nice and well reasoned list. For me the interesting thing is how the preseason plays out.

Which of those guys are you fearful of being signed by another team?

Coleman on the PS. Crabtree sticks.

If Coleman is the steal many think he is, and he has the camp to back it up, then I can see plenty of teams adding him to their 53.
Most late round rookie QB's aren't that attractive to another team because if say, the Dolphins signed Coleman, he'd be on there active roster the week before the regular season starts without even looking at there playbook. Not saying it couldn't happen, but I'd be shocked if Coleman was signed away, unless he completely tears up the preseason (which rookies rarely do in MM's offense).

Not a whole lot to argue about on those rosters. Really only a few positions up for grabs this year. I really like Crabtree, but wouldn't be surprised if he was let go. He's so limited on offense.
It will be difficult to cut Crabtree unless Taylor really steps up his blocking. Neither Finley nor Williams really shows much potential in that regard, and at times the Packers will need a blocking TE.

Personally, I'd cut both Gurly and Borel. Neither one is likely to ever rise to the level of a James Jones (or touch the level of any of the Packers' top WRs). And if the WR corps gets depleted over the next couple of years, I have faith in Thompson's ability to find new guys that are even better than those two. Rodgers has plenty of great receiving targets already. Gurly and Borel may be better than a lot of teams' number 5 or 6 WRs, but I just don't see the logic in stacking the roster with extra bottom of the depth chart receivers, when those spots could be used for guys like Crabtree that can help the team right now - or even on developmental guys at positions where depth problems mean they might actually be needed.

I won't say any specifically, but once the pre-season games start we'll see who is good but not good enough to make the Packers. That does not mean they are not good enough to make another lower talent NFL team, say the Vikings or Cleveland or Oakland.
OFFENSE

QB (2): Rodgers, Coleman
Cut: Harrell
Comments: I think they kept Harrell and coached him up as much as possible as insurance in case no one was available in the draft. Coleman has shown enough IMO and Harrell has shown that he's maxed as far as the physical side goes. Some may say they won't keep a rookie as the sole back-up, but they've done it before and there's nothing that Harrell possesses that Coleman doesn't.

HB (3): Starks, Green, Saine
Cut: Tyler (PS), Bennett
Comments: Agree with sschumer

FB (1): Kuhn
Cut: Cooper (PS), Hoese
Comments: Agree with sschumer

WR (6): G. Jennings, Nelson, J. Jones, Cobb, Driver, Borel
Cut: Gurley, Moss (PS), Boykin, Smithson, Gilleylen
Comments: Agree with sschumer but I won't be surprised if Smithson makes it over Borel and I won't be surprised at all to see that 6th WR cut when/if Quarless returns from PUP

TE (4): Finley, DJ Williams, Taylor, Crabtree
PUP: Quarless
Cut: Lair, Bostick, Cosby
Comments: Crabtree makes it. There has been more emphasis on the running game recently I think and he's a big part of that.

OL (8): OT's Bulaga, Newhouse, Sherrod, G's Sitton, Lang, Dominguez, C's Saturday, Dietrich-Smith
Cut: OT's Datko, Allard, McCabe, Taylor, G's Brooks (PS), Barclay, Van Roten (PS), C's Draheim (PS), Genus
Comments: Agree with sschumer although I think Van Roten makes it on the PS over Datko.

DEFENSE

DL (7): Raji, Pickett, Worthy, Daniels, Wilson, Wynn, Muir
Suspended: Neal, Hargrove
Cut: Merling, Guy (PS),J. Jones
Comments: Agree with sschumer except I think Wynn makes it initially. I think Wilson will be gone when Neal returns and I think Wynn will be gone when Hargrove returns.

LB (9): OLB's Matthews, Perry, Moses, Walden, ILB's Bishop, Hawk, DJ Smith, Manning, Lattimore
Cut: OLB's So'oto, Jones, Zombo, ILB's Francois
Comments: Agree with sschumer although I think Francois gets cut. It's a numbers game and I think it will come down to Manning or Francois and I think Manning has more upside.

DB (10): CB's T. Williams, House, Hayward, Shields, Bush, S's Woodson, Burnett, MD Jennings, McMillian, Levine
Cut: CB's Merrill, Turner, S's Richardson (PS), Pellerin
Comments: Agree with sschumer except I think Levine makes it over Ross.

I think Datko will be put on the PS to see if he can be developed. He's nowhere near ready to play at this level but performed well in college when he was healthy.

This. He's quietly put together a good camp. He has to at least be in contention.

Also, I don't see Crabby getting cut yet. He's the best blocker on the team and the reserve FB. He's probably the best utility player they have right now.

They only kept 8 last year, and there's too much talent at other positions to justify an extra player this year (IMO).
