Of course it's too early, but I can't help starting to wonder if  ol Ted scored some solid paydirt with his first three draft picks this year.

There's already some shiny nuggets in the pan here.

More than just the first 3 rounds.  Aside from Jones, Lacy, & Bakhtiari, guys like Hyde, Barrington, & Franklin have making noise too.  The guys MIA?  WRs Dorsey and Johnson.  Very good draft the way it appears to be shaping up. 

I'm not holding my breath on Lacy. When the guy says his mom had to tell him to go out and run because he was fat you know he isn't motivated.

On Lacy, there was some speculation I read that the Katrina thing really knocked him for a loop psychologically, and some teams wondered if he could recover. As I recall, there were concerns about Adrian Peterson when the Vikes drafted him about his running style holding up in the NFl, his fumbling, etc. Think he's done all right...

"Two days in pads mean little, but for now that's the body of work. Off such a sample, it certainly would seem that Bakhtiari could be a more physical run blocker than Daryn Colledge."

I know that there unknowns that we won't know for awhile but I can't agree with what you think you know based on what his mom said. 

He also eats donuts on the treadmill.  I heard.

Not sure if I am picturing a guy walking on the treadmill eating a doughnut, or a guy on the ground with his mouth open, and a stream of doughnuts coming off the treadmill like a loony toons cartoon

For real efficiency, hire someone to feed them in and eliminate the need to chew.

So far in practices, Bakhtiari has impressed Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy with his quick feet and aggressive temperament. “He’s got a ways to go, but he’s got a chance,” is how Rodgers recently put it, and that’s very astute. While there are things to be ironed out in his overall game – especially when it comes to pass protection – there’s no question that Bakhtiari comes to ring people up.

 

“The first day I did go against him and he rolled me back about 6 yards,” defensive end Mike Daniels told Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel about Bakhtiari’s drive-blocking. “He’s a long guy. Strong kid. You can tell he’s been well-coached. He reminds me of Sitton. He’s got that real nice, cool personality, but when he gets on the field he turns into a psychopath.”

 

As Greg Cosell of NFL Films and ESPN’s NFL Matchup recently told me, Bakhtiari plays shorter than he is – he’s 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds, but he comes off the ball like a 6-foot-2 guy, because he tends to bend at the waist at times. However, I would also say that he plays heavier than he is – because he has an excellent understanding of leverage, he’s able to move people in ways you’d expect of a man 25 pounds heavier.

Just as McGinn stated, we really don't know how Bulaga was going to perform at LT.  I'm not trying to write his injury off as no big deal, but we just don't know how he would have done at LT.  I'm excited to see what the rookie does.  I'm also glad they are just going to plug Bakhtiari in instead of re-shuffling the line again.  If The Packers can run the ball, I think a lot of this talk will be moot. 

Also, as far as Rodgers getting sacked, some of that is on him.  If he can release the ball quicker, the sack totals will go down.  I'd rather have a sack than a INT though.  The Packers will be fine.  Go Pack Go!

My hopes are high for him but one thing that was mentioned in the above article was that he will have better coaching available to him at this level.  Er, apparently the author is not familiar with James Campen.

If I play optimist, Bakhtiari is the real deal and the need to start him ramps up his progress.  Pack makes the playoffs and after a full pre and regular season, he is a different player come playoff time.

But, I do despise the chronic recent history of injuries at the offensive line.  Just really blows.

Bakhtiari another good set vs Mulumba. He really anchors well.

Keeping my fingers crossed that Bakhtiari keeps making good progress the rest of camp and becomes at least a decent LT. Ditto for no more OL or any other injuries.

There's bound to be some growing pains with him, but lets hope he learns fast and minimizes them.

Sounding good so far... but it is only, what, 8-10 days into camp?

It is early, but it sure is nice to have a promising rookie after having an injury to your top LT. I think we'd all feel a lot worse if it wasn't for the high praise we've been hearing about Bak.

I believe Bakhtiari went 4-0 today in 1-1's, all at LT. He handled CM3, Jolly, Palmer, and forgot the other.

That makes him 13-2-1 overall in camp thus far. More importantly, He hasn't been beaten at LT yet. 9-0-1 after today.

Can't remember a GB R with those kind of 1-1 numbers in camp.

But agreed, he hasn't faced live NFL bullets yet.
