WesHod MM: Frank Zombo is getting close, Andrew Quarless is getting close. Sherrod is probably a little further away

RobDemovsky DJ Williams, who missed practice today, has a hamstring injury per #Packers PR man @JTWahlers

WesHod Injury report: Jermichael Finley (DNP), Greg Jennings (DNP), DJ Williams (hamstring)

Following are the highlights from coach Mike McCarthy's press conference after practice today:

**Tight end D.J. Williams didn't practice today because of a strained hamstring sustained near the end of practice Wednesday. McCarthy gave little indication of the injury's severity. Starting tight end Jermichael Finley's status for Sunday night already is in doubt because of a shoulder injury that prevented him from practicing Wednesday and today.

"Obviously D.J. was a big part of our planning," McCarthy said. "He's never had a hamstring injury before, so this is new territory for him. We'll see where he is tomorrow."

**Of the Packers' three players on the physically unable to perform list, McCarthy said outside linebacker Frank Zombo (hamstring) and tight end Andrew Quarless (knee reconstruction surgery) are closer to being ready to play than tackle Derek Sherrod (broken lower leg). Starting next week, there's a three-week window for PUP players to begin practicing, and once they start practicing, that begins another three-week window after which they must be activated, put on IR or released.

**McCarthy said that three of his injured players -- Finley, defensive lineman B.J. Raji and receiver Greg Jennings -- are veteran enough that they could play Sunday night even if they don't practice this week.

Hoping DJ's injury isn't serious. Packers getting dangerously thin at TE.

There isn't a player in the NFL whose leg wouldn't have snapped just like Sherrod's on that play. That play was brutal to watch.

I'm thinking Sherrod doesn't factor into this year as even if he comes back, I doubt he'd be ready to jump in and beat out Newhouse. Quarless would be a big addition though, as the talent gap between him and Finley is smaller than the other TE's. I think Quarless is a best blocker of the bunch too.

Jermichael Finley does a little cheer & fist pump under his breath.
I expected it. When Mike Flanagan had the same type of injury it took 2 years. Even if medical technology gets better, you can't just make bones heal. They could amputate and make him bionic.

Coach McAdoo says Rodgers not far from top form

These past couple days, they've praised Houston's Arian Foster. He's patient, they say. His vision may be the best in the NFL. But is Foster the best overall running back in the league?

The Green Bay Packers defensive linemen won't go that far.

"I don't know about that. The best in the league? Nah. That's tough," defensive end Ryan Pickett said. "There are a lot of good backs out there. It's Adrian Peterson. Foster's a good back, but they're also in a good system. They have a good running system there. So it's hard to compare him with somebody like AP where they run powers and stuff. (Houston) is zone. He's good, but I don't know. He's not AP.

"AP is a monster."

Nose tackle B.J. Raji, who didn't practice again Thursday with an ankle injury, noted this week that the term "patience" is thrown around too much these days. But Foster, he says, is "the epitome of a patient back." Foster finds the weak link up front, he said, and cuts on a dime upfield.

But no, Raji continued, there isn't anybody in Peterson's class.

"Apart from Adrian, I think you can argue who's the second best," Raji said. "But I think Arian's right up there. Adrian is obviously in a completely different class."
