Just heard Adam Schefter on local Denver station and he said the Packers are close to signing WR King off the Broncos practice squad.  Said, that King's locker was partially cleared out this afternoon.   For what it is worth...

Apparently the Packers were very interested in King and scouted him heavily before the Broncos landed him.

He would be an interesting pick-up. Just read his bio on Ourlads draft book from this years draft. Played more games than anyone, and started quite a few, for Georgia. They claim due to his lighter weight he'd be more of an outside guy than a slot receiver. About 6', 189lbs at that time, with decent speed and good hands.

Mike Leach used to switch a big WR into the slot so they could throw screens to Welker outside the numbers.

They resigned Reggie Dunn. Lol. He flunked out as a returner, so they must like him as a WR!

A report from USA Today and ESPN suggested the Packers might try to sign Denver practice-squad receiver Tavarres King, a fifth-round pick in April’s draft, but it appears that fell through.

A separate ESPN.com report quoting King’s agent, Brian Mackler, said the 6-foot receiver wasn’t going anywhere, a sign the Broncos might have done something to keep him.

With Broncos' rookie receiver Tavarres King on the practice squad, the Green Bay Packers made an attempt Monday to lure him away to their 53-man roster. The Broncos, though, engaged in discussions to try to keep King, whom they drafted from Georgia in the fifth round.

"I'd like to stay here," King said. "But we're talking about a spot on the 53. It's a business. We're still trying to sort it all out. We probably won't know until (Tuesday) morning."

"John, Ted Thompson is on line 1. He's interested in signing Tavarres King off the practice squad"

"Tell him the entire front office is driving Peyton to the mall and get Tavarres on the 53 STAT!!!"

"You got it horse grill".

Can't be easy for TT to sneak up on anyone's PS WR.

Because when his roster has been decimated by injuries the past two weeks (and nearly a quarter of the starting lineup) that's how a professional GM spends his time?

Odd business.

Packers tried to sign Tavarres King to their 53-man roster this week. In turn, Broncos promoted King on Tues. (4-yr deal), waived him today.

I could be rong, but I thought bringing up a guy from the PS meant you had to guarantee him at least 3 weeks on the roster, or at least 3 weeks of normal game checks? If so the Donkeys owe king for 3 game checks (without ever suiting up) which is quite a bit more than what they get on the PS. I guess horse face really did not want to lose him to GB, or anyone for that matter.

You are correct.  Here is an excerpt from this spot I found on a search:

"Finally, if a player is promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, that player must remain there for three weeks and get paid the minimum salary for their status. If they are let go before the three weeks, they still receive the three weeks pay."

Elway probably thought that if the Packers wanted King bad enough they would put him on the roster and then trade him for a draft choice. Or watching their left tackle last night for Marshall Newhouse. Elway just did not know that Ted would not give a 5th round choice away for Von Miller much less for a Practice Squad WR.
