“Man, I’m tired of talking about Aaron Rodgers,” Davis told the Gaston Gazette on Wednesday. “We’ll line up and we’re going to compete as hard as we can, and we should come away with a victory.”

Count Panthers LB Thomas Davis among those worn out by the buzz on Green Bay and its Super Bowl-winning QB, Aaron Rodgers.

With the Packers on tap for Week 2, Davis is preparing onlookers for what would be the biggest upset of the young NFL season.

....... It’s unlikely Thomas would have spouted off in this manner a year ago, with the Panthers rolling out the carpet on a disastrous 2-14 campaign that led to a complete franchise overhaul.

It just goes to show what a young, exciting quarterback can do for even the most moribund team. Cam Newton won’t throw for 400 yards every week, but his poise and creativity against the Cardinals in Week 1 was a revelation. He was lashed by his critics before and after the draft — with many suggesting he’d have problems picking up a pro-style offense after leading Auburn’s spread attack — but Newton has been a quick study and impressed teammates.

We’ll wait and see before tagging Davis a clairvoyant, but Carolina appears prepped to ruffle feathers in the loaded NFC South.

This is what Warren Sapp was talking about when he said the Packers better be prepared for "16 Bullseye's in 2011" during the off season.

Everyone wants to knock GB down a peg. But teams like Carolina, St Louis, Detroit, and Tampa have had the Packer game circled for months. Beating GB would mean everything.

ps. Oakland, Denver, and KC were part of that group prior to week 1. But it's already been established that all three teams still suck regardless of who they have circled.

I wouldn't include Oakland in with that bunch at the moment. Yes they can be very mediocre to bad, but I think Hue Jackson has a small window of opportunity to make his team competitive. They have a good run game, a decent defense, and some youth who don't know any better. Not saying they will light up the league, just that I'd put them closer to the Rams or Bucs than Denver or the Chefs.

Nice completely inaccurate headline. Davis said not one word about "hype". His quote is, he's "tired of talking about Aaron Rodgers," in other words, quit asking me about it.

It's pretty clear that's what he meant when he adds, "We'll line up and we're going to compete as hard as we can" (read: so shut up about it already).

These media just kill me: pester a guy until he's sick of hearing it, then blame him for it.

Oh, and be sure to stick a headline on it saying he's "drained by the Rodgers and Packers hype," even though: 1) it's not what he said, and 2) you're the (only) one creating the hype that made him say that.

Yessir, I reckon at that thar Gaston Gazette, they're just sick to death of all the hype, now aren't they?
Good post.

It's no different at the JSO, as we've just seen once again. As journalism moves more and more online, the dynamic continues to change. The days of circulation numbers are over, and in comes the era where everyone who reads every 'paper' online is tracked in terms of what they read, what pages they spend the most time on, what pages make them leave, etc.

Advertising isn't sold on circulation any more. It's sold on traffic. Traffic that can be tangibly traced real-time. The point is that these headline writers know within hours how their article is doing. More importantly, so does the management that engages the sales team to sell based on those statistics.

It's money. Nothing more, nothing less. GB is still going to beat the bejesus out of them, but since they all sling and spin garbage anyway it's nice to see a flying cyber-turd that actually works in the favor of the GBP for once.

Did you hear that Aaron Rodgers hates cancer patients?

So, your saying we are playing every opponents SB game this year? And some get a rematch? Then we should be well practiced for the real thing. Smiler
