Did you all watch the game? Brews was getting the ball out lightning fast. We couldn't get any pressure which leads to terrible DB play. Shields looks fine when the pressure is there, but when you give a top 5 QB time to find his receivers then yes Sam Shields, Tramon Williams, etc all looks weak. If we come out and pressure Andrew Luck next week like crazy and we rack up 4 INTs, does that mean our pass defense is fixed? No it means we got great pressure and forced mistakes.

I don't care if Drew Brees throws for 400, 500, of 1000 yards, yardage stats mean nothing. We got a stop when we needed it and we won the game. Why can't that be enough?

That is because we are perfectionists! We expect perfection! We are the Green Bay Packers

...even more reason to slow receivers down at line of scrimmage & get them off their routes. In addition, playing zone makes responsibilities more "clouded"....Shields "thinks" he is passing his man off in zone & it ends up the easiest 80 yard TD a team can get.
I am not sure any team in the league has faced as much adversity to start the season than Green Bay. Perhaps New Orleans, but that was self inflicted.

I was not happy with the pass defense either, but the key thing is they made the stop at the end and the Saints are no slouch throwing the ball. Until yesterday the Packers pass D had been solid and I still think they are much improved over last year.

Something that surprised me was that Smith & hawk were on the field as much as they were. Both seem better vs. run that pass. We don't seem to have LBers on the roster that are better pass than run guys as we did in past years (Chillar comes to mind).

Smith made one hell of a play yesterday sniffing out the screen pass. I like the fire that Hawk is playing with so far this season too.

I agree with you on this but it was shocking HOW WIDE OPEN they were all day long. They give up big plays playing zone as well as m-2-m. I'd just rather see the aggressive m-2-m more often than the zone. JMO...
The pass D looked a lot like last year's version but the most important difference is that they made ENOUGH stops when they needed to to make it a win. They gave up some long third downs but they also stopped a good number of short ones. They couldn't pull that off last year.

The other noticeable difference is the run D completely shutting down the NO backs. By doing that, they made Brees' play action fakes less believeable.

When we score 28, I'll take 27 instead of 34 from the D.
Whatever the Pack defense did on Jimmy Graham in the 2nd half was a big factor for why NO had to kick two short FGs instead of getting TDs. He is Brees' safety net and was invisible in the 2nd half.

DJ Smith has no business being on the field in obvious passing downs over Rob Francois. As previously mentioned, his shallow drop on 3rd & 17 was very poor and quite frankly, is a runt out there. At least frenchy is taller and better suited to play pass defense - get him out there MM!
