PAT

I'm good with this change.  Especially being able to score off failed 2 point conversions.  Not that the Packers will capitalize on that.

Could change dynamics of game in several other ways.  Playing not to lose may not be as popular.  That being a good thing in Green Bay.  

There will be a dozen games decided my missed P.A.T's.

That's a lot of running for 2 points by ST's.

Kicker salaries are going up.

The touchdown should be worth one point and the PAT worth six.  Then kickers might get a little love.

I just looked at the numbers from last year. 270/300 FGs made from 30-39 yards. That's still 90%. No one missed more than 3 (Crosby was one of them). While the effect on betting results remains to be seen, I figure on 1 game result changing because of a missed PAT.

hate it.  took a play that has two options to keep the D somewhat guessing and made it a declared effort, no mystery.

the one point I'll be looking for clarification:  what happens when I declare I'm kicking the extra point from the 15 and the snap is fumbled by the holder?  is the play over?  can the ball be advanced?

I would have preferred just moving it up to the 1-yard-line for everything. Then you get the suspense of “what will they do?” This was, it’s either going to be boring or disappointing – who wants to see a missed extra point? It’s almost like a tie – zero entertainment value.

I guess it's o.k. but I was intrigued by the idea of moving the PAT to the one yard line idea.

Hopefully Zook cleans up the number of blocked kicks we had last year or this could be a game-changer. Either that or he stations a guy off the line simply to pick up the misses and run them in. You could see some crazy lateral plays...     

 

Prefer everything at the 1-yard line as well as an incentive to go for it, but then also allow the D to score 2 if they get a turnover. 

Yea I would have preferred just move it all to the 1 yard line.  That, or just eliminate the kick all together, making a TD worth 7 points with the option of going for a conversion from the 1 yard line to get 8, but if you fail you get 6.  

when you declare for the 1 pt from the 15 yard line, you now have 11 defensive players that can freely come at 9 blockers without worrying about covering a pass or run, right?

I got a feeling we're gonna see some busted up holders and kickers this year - great job NFL.

Perhaps this will motivate MM to go for 2 after every touchdown.  I have more trust in Rodgers than the special team's  ability to avoid blocked kicks.

The 15 yard penalty would likely come on the following kickoff, so it does matter.

Why would it matter? The kickoff's are rarely run out of the endzone anyway. Let them kick off from the 50.

Agreed on kickoffs rarely run out. Maybe they should move the KO back to the 30 again, and expand the rosters to 60 on game day to replace anyone who gets hurt on a KO. At the rate of touchbacks today, they might as well do away with the KO and just start the next series at the 20 -- and do away with the TV timeout. 

Kickoff should be from the 30.

Nobody is going to try to beat the FG coverage for two like that unless they have Brad Jones level of predictability in doing it though. But really, I don't know if I see the defense going all out to block the longer extra points either. Let's face it, an average 30 yard field goal isn't exactly hotly contested either, and in the end it's still an extra point.

 

In principle I like a change to the extra point format, but not necessarily this one. In practice, I think the Packers are pretty poor both in terms of 2 point strategy, and in terms of short yardage situations. Kind of the opposite of how I felt about the change in kickoff position. Stupid rule, but hey at least it makes our special teams less of a factor in games.

Crosby said offensive linemen probably like the rule change much less than kickers.

"Let's say you have a long drive and punch the ball in at the goal line and those guys are gassed and now they have a walk -- it's not a long walk, but they have to go back to the 15 – and that could take time. Interesting point about the o-linemen.......but this is just all BS whining by the players.  If PATs were always from the 15 yard line, we'd be flipping out if they moved it to the 2 yard line.  

It's just more sh** to delay this game even further. And more then a time issue, I'd be more concerned about a gassed OL blowing a knee because he didn't set correctly or someones grabs a hammy in a fatigue injury.

 

Make the quarterbacks use the K balls.

Let's hope the results from this change during pre-season games will further result in some fine-tuning of the rule, i. e., if the defense has too much of an advantage, or if a kicker/holder gets killed.

The league wants to give Kam Chancellor some running room so he can jump over the line and block every extra point.

The league wants viewers in their seats after a touchdown because both the networks and the advertisers bitched about it vociferously. They want your butt in your seat watching ads instead of hitting the bathroom, grabbing a beer or smoking a fat one.

 

So they came up with some manufactured drama, the same schit that you people que up for when you watch those retarded reality shows

 

Think about all the stuff the NFL has done to make it harder on kickers and to devalue kickers - forcing them to use K balls, giving the defense the ball at the spot of the kick after a miss - instead of the LOS. Changing the OT rules so a damn kicker can't decide the game on the first drive. Moving the kickoffs

 

None of those rules changes are compatible with all this crapola about the PAT. The new PAT rules are also incompatible with speeding up the game and player safety

 

So, what's the one thing that trumps all in the NFL world ? Money

And that's all this is - a giveback to the advertisers and networks who bitched

As of now, major sports is the only true reality TV. That may not last much longer though.

I am not a big fan of this..but, I hate change in Football.so...

Truthfully I am no longer a football fan. I rarely watch a game, being content with recaps and internet check ins during the course. I am solely a Green Bay Packers fan. And some of that can be attributed to birthplace partisanship and the Packers' unique place in both the history and current landscape of sport.

 

I've found ice hockey at all levels to be a far more compelling exhibition. Baseball's nice if the weather's warm and you can schmooze in the stands or snooze on the deck.

With today's kickers it's much ado about nothing. A couple more might get missed but I doubt it changes anything.
