Just another affirmation that not getting to the QB makes life in the secondary hell on wheels. The 3-4 hinges on getting to the QB, whether through 3 DL's or a variety of blitzers. Without that, the whole D falls apart and everybody looks bad. TT finds 1 more DL and one more OLB that can get pressure and it'll make the whole enchilada sing.
Exactly. I don't think the defensive collapse from 2010 to 2011 is really all that complicated...it's all about the pass rush.

I'm starting to suspect DL may be the real culprit, moreso than OLB opposite Matthews (although I think upgrading there is important too). In 2010, guys like Walden and Zombo were serviceable when guys like Raji and Jenkins were getting pressure up front, and demanding more attention from opposing offensive lines.
Pickett and Raji were the only two NFL starting quality d-linemen the Packers had last season. Pickett is getting old and Raji under perform which was the rap on him coming out of college. The rest of the Packers D-lineman, with the possible exception of Neal, are no better than back up quality players. Bad d-line play bad everyone else look bad. Fix the defensive line and the defense gets well. A OLB thought would be nice.
I'm lookin at this game on Sunday, and trying to get a read on this Pats D. I can't say I've seen them all that much this year, but it seems to me like BB had 2 weeks to prep for Tebow and Denver, and did a great job solving the anomalies that came with that offense. They also struggled with Flacco and the Ravens though, especially in the second half.

The Pats have gotten little more pass rush than our Packers did most of the year- they do have some players...Wilfork, Ninkovotch seems decent and around the ball alot. But their secondary is young and highly suspect, and without playmakers like GB has. I wonder if Belichik can get this done and harrass Manning enough to get him to make a couple mistakes.
Everyone knows the Packers have to fix the pash rush problem before all else this off-season.

But can they? Guys who can rush the passer are in high-high-high demand in today's NFL. Gonna be tough to fill that void drafting @ 28. The top guys go early.

As good as the TT/MM tandem have been for the Packers, they have never fielded a dominant O or D line in their tenure. Admittedly, it's a very tough thing to do, and tough to maintain once one is in place.
