Merrill Hoge = Total Moron
If he wasn't shaving a poodle's ass he was ruining some guy's career just by uttering their name.
I don't know what I'm more surprised about. A TV pundit that was wrong about a player or that people have blogs that state opinions that people disagree with.
This generation's Peyton Manning...
Quick, who was the geenyous that said that?

No, but good guess. When tlc wasn't teaching us that date rape really isn't that big of a deal and that building your own computer from garbage was a good idea, he was lecturing about how drafting some stiff named Jennings was an enormous mistake because stupid Ted passed on the immortal Chad Jackson. He even told us that that's what the guys in his fantasy league thought.
No, the geenyous who came up with this particular gem was none other than Diggy. After all, he watches more college football than 95% of us.

I wonder what Frog the First's stance is on nut punching on the first date?

Did his gf think Henry was a prick? I for one am muy curioso about that.
This is why I don't listen to anything the talking heads say.

Poor poodles.

I don't know who Frog the First is supposed to be, but Zack Greinke has no qualms about punching people in the nuts.
Hindsight is not only 20/20 but apparently makes message board posters geniuses as well.
Timeless classics. Right up there with "Ty Williams is a shutdown corner"
I thought Brohm would be better than he was but I liked the Rodgers pick and thought it was hillarious how he got bashed because he played for Tedford and people didn't care for his delivery or throwing motion.
What's ironic though was all the Alex Smith love. He ran a video game style offense exclusively out of the shotgun and got the benefit of the doubt.
Sometimes guys just don't work out. Abdul Hodge comes to mind. Loved that pick at the time.

I hated the pick at the time. Not because I knew Brohm would suck, but because it seemed like a wasted pick meant to hedge against the possibility that Rodgers couldn't handle the pressure. I was a Rodgers backer from the start (it was pretty damn obvious after the 2007 preseason and the game in Dallas that he was ready), so my feeling was that if they're going to go with him, they should go "all in". A lot of people here told me it was just a case of "Best Player Available", but there's no way that Ted would take a QB in the 2nd round these days. It was purely a move to hedge their bets.

To be fair, he did hold the ball a bit high:
Isn't that one of the things McCarthy had to fix in his QB school?

They didn't have a backup QB on the roster at the time of the draft, if memory serves. That's why they drafted both Brohm and Flynn, I think. (I could be wrong, which wouldn't be much of a surprise.)
David Carr wasn't a bad player. He just played for team(s) that couldn't pass block and he got beaten to a pulp. Dilfer was OK. Joey Harrington and Akili Smith sucked, but it happens.
Obviously the critics were totally wrong on Rodgers.

They don't have a real backup QB on the roster now (well, maybe Coleman will fill that role), but there's no way in hell that Ted would even consider drafting a guy in the 2nd round to fill that role now. They were hedging their bets, not just finding a backup QB. It was part of it, but only a small part. Backup/project QBs are acquired as late rounders/UDFAs, cheap free agents or 1st round busts from other teams, never second round picks.quote:Originally posted by Fedya:quote:but there's no way that Ted would take a QB in the 2nd round these days. I would have to say Carr was/is a complete bust since he went #1 overall. The above post pretty much proves that there was plenty to be skeptical about regarding Tedford QB prospects.
I look forward to the day when Evan Dietrich Smith is a perennial pro-bowler.

Did the Packers even have a second QB on the roster between the time Favre retried and the drafting of Brohm and Flynn?

Also, if you remember, the very next pick was Chad Henne (who I wanted) by Parcells & the Dolphins.
I was ok with the Brohm pick & I agree they were covering their ass in case something happened to Rodgers.

Yeah, like the 90% on this board who bashed ESPN and Jason Witten for their stupidity when they initially made those comments.
The vast difference in the paths that Brohm & AR's career have taken IMHO has to do with how receptive each was to coaching, which means changing some things you have always done...& have been successful doing. AR improved every aspect of his game, especially his arm strength after coming to GB. It appeared to me that the coaching staff fairly quickly determined that Brohm was not coachable & thus would not improve...."not coachable" isn't always displaying an outwardly "bad attitude", it can sometimes just be the unwillingness or inability to internalize change in mechanics, etc.
