He had a nice career here. But with Ripkowski and this UDFA they brought in, I can see why they are moving on:
His last name may not be as conducive to chants from the crowd, but Alstevis Squirewell has one thing John Kuuuuhn never had – power. Green Bay signed the former defensive end on Monday with the hope of turning him into a fullback. It’s a difficult transition, but one his former head coach thinks he can make.
“He’s not a bulky defensive lineman; he can move and he’s got great speed for his size, and the thing that people don’t realize is the kid’s got really good hands,” said Todd Knight, who spent the past five seasons with Squirewell at tiny (1042 students at last check) Newberry College in South Carolina. “He’s the kind of guy that can be that hard-nosed fullback for you, get those ugly yards, but also leak him out into the flats. I think it’s a perfect fit for him.”
Sure looks like they're gonna go with Rip and this guy if he works out. Can always sign Kuhn after camp if the UFDA doesn't work out.

Don't need 2 fullbacks on the roster.
Maybe the UFDA ends up on the practice squad.
WTMJ story sure reads as thinly sourced. And then there's this:
@RobDemovsky: If the Packers are indeed "moving on" from John Kuhn as @gmatzek reported, that's news to him, according to a source.
It can't be that surprising to anyone. Rip learned last year, it's his job now. Everyone loves Kuhn, but it's time to move on. He'll always be a part of Packer lore and history.
Maybe Korey Hall is available. He was always much better than Kuhn anyway.
Kuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhnnnnnn....
Easy deal to do and if they were going to bring him back no reason it wouldn't have been done by now. Carved himself out a really nice NFL career for a guy that wasn't even drafted but it's time to move on.
Kuhn is/was a GREAT Packer, IMHO.
The biggest thing he has working against him is age.
And I can't see the reason why the team would "move on" in favor of an untested developmental project.
You posted the reason, but can't see it?
Young man's game.
This block will always be Kuhn's claim to fame -- and rightly so. It will go down as one of the best plays by a fullback in Packer history. But if a young guy can do the same thing and provide more power for an extra yard or two, then thank you very much Kuuuuuuuuhn, and you're welcome to return to Lambeau as a fan any time.
Or as a coach. Everyone knows success as a player translates to success as a coach!
Kuhn was of the few players on the team who has played for another NFL team in a regular season game. They had 5 on the roster last year; this year, they may only have 3 on opening day (Peppers, Cook and Guion).

Sure hope what we have now to replace him develops into the guy who is such a knowledgeable asset to the O.
We've been blessed with 2 great FB's in our SB runs. William Henderson and Kuhn were both great at their role in the offense. Hopefully Rip carries on the tradition.
Ripppppppppppp one

Indeed it is.
If it came/comes down to either Ripper or Kuhn, I can definitely see going with youth (who has experience now, and has shown his abilities for a year).
But for a DE who has never played FB before? No way.
For Kuhn, I think it came down to numbers, and not financial ones. With the rosters at 53 in the NFL, the Packers have potential log jams at positions like WR and OL. GB may need to keep 7 WR's in order to prevent a young talent like Trevor Davis from getting snagged off a PS. To do that, GB may need to go with just 3 RB's (Lacy, Starks, and 1 FB). Rip was also drafted for a reason. TT rarely lets any position "age out". This team stays young for a reason.
No way they go with just Lacy and Starks. Crocket or one of the UDFA's will be there. 1 less FB and 1 more WR than last year.
Don't underestimate "Alstevis Fatt Bakk Squirewell" !
I love that name and nickname https://www.facebook.com/publi...Fatt-Bakk-Squirewell
He is someone they may/will try to hide on the practice squad.
If true he's gone, I'm gonna miss him.....Packer people.
Cosmo Kramer, H.E. Pennypacker, Dr. Martin Van Nostrand, Assman, Alstevis Squirewell.
All the same guy.
I can't see how they keep 7 WR's. Have to imagine that JJ and JA will be cut?
If you think either one of them will just roll over & walk outta camp, you're completely high.
WR competition will be spectacular!
Why would they cut both? They will definitely keep 6. With the roster issues they will have early in the season they could keep 7 and by WK7 somebody will be hurt. They could go with just 3 RB's or 2 TE's on the 53 and 7 WR. Is it groundhog day again?

They should have Dmitri Goodson's Jerrett Bush Memorial Spot to play with for four games. If Davis flashes in Goodson's special teams spots and Janis continues his run there, Goodson could be gone. There's also the possibility of injury in those first four weeks.
All good points, I meant to say that either JA or JJ will be cut. Right now, we have JN, RC, DA, TM, JA, JJ, TD. Hopefully, Geronimo will be on the PS, but who knows. Your right about injuries, but it's not going to help JA or JJ too much, if they can't see the field, because of DA and TM.
There is plenty of room for 7 WR's. They are not getting rid of Janis. Special teams demon. They had 2 FB's last year. 1 this year. They had 3 QB's last year. 2 this year. TE's will be Rodgers, Cook and Perrillo. Lot's of young defensive players on special teams. Abbrederis maybe if another UDFA beats him out.
When Lucroy gets traded at the deadline this year, when will we 'Wisconsin' fans get to yell 'ooooooooooooo....?
When you post?
What the **** does this thread have to do with ****ing baseball????
Remember Atlanta 2010 playoffs when Kuhn basically gave himself a concussion scoring a TD pass to make it 42-14? Could have stepped out but he put a hand on the ground to get his balance and took a direct hit to the head instead so he could score. Again. To make it 42-14!
Hes a great reason I'd be a terrible GM. How do you let someone that loved playing for Green Bay like he did go? I get everyone in the NFL has an expiration date. But I couldn't look the guy in the eye and tell him we're moving on.
NFL history is littered with great teams that had guys like Kuhn that did nothing great but everything exactly like they were asked. Really good Packer.
Fun Kuhn trivia. Who threw him his first reception?
