No it's not

For a team like Milwaukee the only way they will make the next step is to draft and develop - and get decent enough draft picks to do so.

Ending up .500 (or close to it) does them no good unless you are a fan of mediocrity.  Maybe most people are, I don't know.  But I would rather they have 5 awful seasons if it meant they could restock the minors and then come out like the Pirates or Astros or Cubs.

Personally, I don't think trey need to tank the next 5 years but they can't let this opportunity (this year) get away from them.  Getting the 12th pick in the 1st round isn't as appealing as a top 3 pick in what looks like a very good draft year.

The next Kyle Schwarber or Kris Bryant aren't available at pick 8. We need an impact player in the 2016 draft.  If we blow a top 3-5 pick we are missing an opportunity.

Winning meaningless games that theat push us farther down the draft will simply ensure we continue to miss on those types of players. Meanwhile we'll watch STL and CHI and PIT pull farther ahead of us.  Big picture thinking is needed.

The MLB is such a crapshoot I personally want them to win as many as they can. I will readily admit that I don't study the draft or amateur players but I haven't heard of a Kris Bryant-type being available in next years draft.

We talk about the Dirty Birds on here all the time and their ability to draft. When have they last drafted anywhere near the top?

The Cardinals are an outlier in just about every respect.   Unless we hijack their front office you can't make many comparisons to them.

You don't usually find many Carlos Correa's or Gerrit Cole's picking 10th or 15th.

When you look at the 2016 mock drafts 4 of the top 5 picks are expected to be pitchers - and all 4 have top of rotation ability with power arms.

Thought Process One: Tank and shoot for the highest pick possible.

Thought Process Two: Having young guys like Jungmann, Peralta, Nelson, Davis, etc. play well and old guys like Garza and KRod play well so they can be traded this offseason (along with others) in hopes of a 2-3 year rebuild instead of 5. Playing well will result in wins.

Also, with a new GM coming in I see no reason why striving for a farm system like the Dirty Birds or Tampa or whoever should be viewed as impossible.

I don't believe it will be a 5 year rebuild.  The guys they got back in the Gomez and Fiers trade are probably MLB ready in a year or two.  Milwaukee also has several pretty decent pitching prospects in A or AA ball as well.  In 2-3 years we should know if they are legit or not.

However, I think it's important they get a high pick this year AND next year.  Garza will also be off the books by that time so in 2017-2018  i think they can be poised to do some things.

Gotta get worse though to get better
