Kiel, exactly how uncomfortably hot was it in that stadium yesterday?

Good Lord.

Mind you, been in Florida 23 years and I spend 4-6 hours every Saturday doing yard work and then running three miles, so I know heat.

It was surface of the sun hot. Full sun. No wind. Sweat in your eyes the whole time. Clothing as wet as if somebody had poured a bucket of water over you. We were fortunate to have club seats----basically a full blown sports bar is behind the seats inside. Mrs. Blair Kiel made through the first 30 minutes in the stands and then spent the rest of the day inside (by the way, that's why you see so many empty seats during sell-outs---it's self-preservation to get out of the heat.) I went inside for half of the second quarter and beginning of third. It actually got bearable  with a breeze in the 4th quarter but still wicked hot.

I was at the Seattle play-off game at Lambeau  (The Hasselbeck "we want the ball and we're gonna score" game in what 2003? )It was around 15 degrees----I was a Hell of a lot more comfortable than being in the heat yesterday.

PS. Side story of shame. We took my daughter's boyfriend and his brother to their first NFL game  (they are now 1-0 as Packer fans ) Today she asked me whether I ever served in the military----it turns out during a time-out, they asked veterans who'd served to stand. I had not been paying attention ( i was probably surfing X4) and I saw a bunch of people standing and veteran stuff on the scoreboard-----so I stood up and clapped. Guy next to me shook my hand and said thanks, which I had no clue why he'd thank me for just standing up. I JUST STOLE VALOR!!!!   Daughters boyfriend had no idea whether I'd served and he was too polite  to question/correct me.

As funny as it is, and as honest as a mistake as it was, I am truly horrified for being such a knucklehead. As penance, the next time I am at dinner and see a military family dining ,dinner is on me (I've done that a couple of times and in both cases the wives cried) To any veterans on this board (and I know there are a few,) please let me have it--I'm a dope.

At BK!

Start practicing your stories about the time you served in Vietnam.

I texted daughter's b/f to remind me to show him my Medal of Honor next time he visits.

That story is archive-able.

I ask because McGinn went on at great length about how brutal the heat was.  And he's not one to get bogged down in trivial things like conditions.

What was really in the Pack's favor, was I don't think there was ever a situation where the lineman were getting completely gassed. Even on the few Jag drives of any length, they were broken up time wise by time-outs and end of period. I don't recall much "hands on hips" stuff at all on either side of the ball. Seemed like the 3 D-line guys got subbed after every first down play too. Jags did Pack a favor by gaining two yards every first down and allowing the Pack to go nickel and only use a couple big guys on 2nd and 3rd downs.

BK, first of all, your penance of posting on this board seems like more than enough.  Second, given the heat, do you think the Packers performance yesterday is likely to be even remotely representative of their potential?

Bob.

I went into the game thinking loss because of the heat----I'm incredibly impressed by how they handled it (and that to a degree (pun intended) is why I went off so badly on the Eeyore gang yesterday in the game thread.

That said, I don't don't know what it means for the next 15 games, but suffice to say, they were a bunch of bad MF'ers yesterday to beat the Southern boys in their own heat.

PS. Thanks for making me feel better about being a fraud---hey, my son served--does that count? A little?

So if a player told Goodell to go eff himself, would that be sexually suggestive?

That reminds me of a story a forgotten hoops coach told.

He asked the ref if he'd get a technical for what he was thinking---ref said, "No", so the coach said, "Well then, I think you suck."

Somebody would probably get 10 games for doing that to Roger.

Not trying to hijack a thread. But a lot of defenses melted down yesterday. Chargers. Miami. Jets. Saints. Colts. Lions.

Its hard to play 60 minutes on D week 1. You aren't in game shape.

Jax was going 4 downs for most of the 4th. That stand on 4th and 1 on the 14 was just a huge "enough of this" when they must have been totally and fully spent short handed on the DL.

Cant question the mental toughness of GB after yesterday. That's a badass collection.

Thanks for supporting those of use that have or are serving, you big dope!

I am sure it was an honest mistake. Good on you for what you do for military families.

and can I say.....Charles Woodson is the ONLY guy on ESPN's pre game show worth watching.....but because he's only one out of what? 5?  I just can't stand any of the others, so won't be watching any ESPN coverage.  Ugh.....  Only watch NFL network's coverage.  Love Rich Eisen.....
