(5/13/2014 02:23:00 PM) - Al

First of all, it is absolutely criminal that Roenicke and his staff don't know if Gomez is going to be active tonight at 2:20PM. MLB should be ashamed of themselves, both for rewarding bullies and for dragging its feet and apparently, not being able to come to a decision in a timely fashion.

Secondly, walks are not the same as OBP. Paul Molitor made a career of jumping on first pitch fastballs. OBP is about swinging at good pitches and not swinging at pitcher's pitches.

Been awhile since we talked to al (still waiting for that chat al...).  I think we all agree MLB needs to **** or get off the pot.  The world needs another Cole v Gomez matchup.

The second part, pure al gold.

Secondly, walks are not the same as OBP Just to be clear, k's are not slugging percentage, errors are not RBI's and Wal Mart sucks.

Paul Molitor made a career of jumping on first pitch fastballs.  OK.  Paulie walked 66 times per season as well.  I could not find Paul's P/PA, but I feel just as safe as al with wild speculation that Paul hit a lot of his own pitches.  I'm not sure how Molitor is your poster child for swinging a the first pitch.  I'm cool with him being the poster child for swinging at your pitch.  (side note, just noticed how much he and Jeter are comparable.  Jeter gets 65 walks per, slightly higher OPB.  Would you call Jeter an aggressive hitter?).

OBP is about swinging at good pitches and not swinging at pitcher's pitches.  Can't argue with.. wait, what?  What?

What?

Frank Thomas was excellent at not swinging at pitchers pitches (whatever the hell that means).  He walked over a hundred time per season and had an OBP 60 points over Paul.

I don't care if they are hitting aggressively, as long as they are hitting.  Right now they are not getting on base as much as I like, a couple walks might help that out (right now your two best hitters, best at getting on base, are Luc and Gomez, also your team leaders in walks).  None of what al says makes any sense unless you look at who is swinging at pitches in the zone and who is swinging out of the zone.  I like to call that OPS.

Here's to getting on base and getting home against the Bucs.
