For reasons I will explain at the end, I am watching the going price for Packer playoff tickets. On the NFL.com/tickets , tickets for the divisional round game are currently going for only $25-30 above list, as long as you are willing to sit in the less desirable seats (i.e. the 300 sections and rows about 45 in the end zone). Currently, there are a number of tickets for as little as $170 and the list on my ticket is $148.

Factors at work here:
  • We don't know our opponent yet, so the other team's fans are not in the market yet. That will change on either Saturday or Sunday.
  • Packer fans are taking advantage of the bye and will start buying later. Maybe waiting for the ten day forecast to cover next Sunday.
  • People list their tickets and set it so that their tickets drop in price if they don't sell.
  • If you are a speculator, you may think that $30 today is better than the chance at $60 next week.

If I am right, the prices will drop further tomorrow, but after that the tickets will become rarer and start to become unaffordable.

I am a Gold Package single season ticket holder. but I won the lottery and have one (1) ticket. Since the Green package person who shares my seat location kept it, my seat was assigned quite at random. Good for me. My season ticket is one of the worst seats in the stadium (low in the end zone, but not so low that anyone can jump there). Not complaining, happy to have it, but recognizing reality.

My new seat is in section 124, row 24 - about the 25 yard line on the press box side, less than half way up. Prime or close to it. My goal is to sell my one good ticket and buy two bad ones so that my wife can come to the game too. If I buy 2 now, when prices are lower, I should be able to sell my better seat later. Probably can't totally cover the cost of two (esp after the NFL and Ticketmaster take their cut), but hope to come within $100, which would be a bargain for a playoff ticket. Almost any ticket is as good as my regular season ticket, so I won't miss the better seat.

After the very cold NFCC game vs the Giants, I found that I had cheered so long and loud that I needed medical attention as I had bruised my lungs in the cold air. I may have sat on my hands in an attempt to keep them warm at the same time.

Yes, Part of the differential I am counting on to move from 1 good ticket to 2 less good tickets is that my good ticket has a higher value ( a sunk cost).

As for the end zone being less desirable, that is why the tickets there cost less. Less perfect does not equal undesirable. Love and enjoy my end zone seats, but would trade them in a heartbeat for the 50 yard line.
