GREEN BAY PACKERS
LAST WEEK: 9
RECORD: 1–0

The NFL statistical community has yet to embrace in any meaningful depth the Wins Above Replacement (WAR) calculation that has flooded MLB in recent years. Suffice it to say, Aaron Rodgers would carry an astronomical number if it ever did. Take Rodgers off this team, plug in Brett Hundley or some well-traveled veteran QB, and this is closer to a 5–11 rebuilding club than a division favorite.

I hope this gets posted on a bulletin board at 1265. It should fire up a few of the guys.

Considering the wide receivers don't get separation and for all the picks thrown at the interior of the defense they're still not strong there, how wrong is he?

As Buddy Nix alluded to, Rodgers covers up all manner of warts.

As my old buddy Oldstool would say: that's pretty lazy analysis. "Take the QB off that team and they suck" is true of almost every team that is not NE. It's why QBs get paid so much money, they're the most important players on the team. Of course they're critical to a team's success.

I don't think they're 5-11 without Rodgers, but I don't think they're a top 3 team in the NFC. The offense is designed around Rodgers and his abilities, but if Hundley is starting I think the offense would change to suit his needs...similarly to how NE has changed the scheme to suit Garapalo and Dallas has changed for Prescott. The only time we remember losing Rodgers, the team took a nosedive, but that was mostly because the backup QBs were brutal. Hundley is a much more competent backup and player who could manage a game just fine.

GB is number 1 on ESPN's rankings and Patriot and Vikings fans lost their collective minds. I suppose it generates clicks but I swear some NFL fans equate these to BCS rankings. This isn't the NCAA son.

FWIW, this was the 1st time GB ranked number one on ESPN since I believe 2014.

Exactly.  For the life of me I don't know why they bother doing power rankings for the NFL.  The NFL isn't a beauty contest like college football is and it doesn't matter what a team is ranked it what takes place on the field is what matters.

But, that being said I do freaking love seeing Vikings fans losing their minds.  Just like their team lost every championship opportunity.

Thought some of the other power rankings had the Packers a bit too high and that's about right. Hard to really judge the team until there's a better read on exactly where the offense is and that should come Sunday. Queen offense appears to be lackluster but Zimmer's defenses have always done a pretty good job against AR.
