Updated after a couple of weeks of training camp and post-Family Night scrimmage.  Obviously the upcoming pre-season games will tell us a whole lot, but here's current thinking:

QUARTERBACKS (2)

Keep:  Rodgers, Harrell

Practice Squad (PS):  Coleman
Comments:  High odds Packers keep their customary 2 on active roster.  Coleman improved, but not enough to beat out Harrell, contribute in prime-time if needed.  Another year on practice squad not a bad thing.

RUNNING BACKS (5)

Keep:  HBs Lacy (D2), Franklin (D4), Starks, Green, Harris

Cut:  FB's Kuhn (30), Amosa, HB Peace

Comments:  First surprise -- cutting Kuhn, going with no true FB (although is really one?).  May not happen if Kukn's ability to pass block for Rodgers put above all else.  But at 30, overpaid, with 5 TEs (projected) on roster and five RBs better than him overall, time to move on.  Lacy and Franklin locks.  Both Starks and Green looking excellent.  Harris currently nursing minor injury, but showed what he could do late last year.

WIDE RECEIVERS (5)

Keep:  Cobb, Nelson, Jones, Boykin, Ross

PS:  Johnson (D7A)

Cut:  Dorsey (D7B), Walker, Gillett, Cunningham, White, Hines

Comments:  Would only keep 6 if compelling -- and so far it's not.  Betting on Ross being the primary kick returner.  Right now, Johnson kept on PS purely on potential.  Maybe would like to keep Dorsey or Walker there as well, but can't find the room with only 8 spots.

TIGHT ENDS (5)

Keep:  Finley, Quarless, Mulligan, Bostick, Williams

Cut:  Taylor, Stoneburner

Comments:  If no FB, must keep 5 TEs.  Finley, Quarless locks.  Mulligan a keeper as a commitment to better run game.  Bostick #4 -- good in passing game, got bigger.  Williams on very thin ice, still hasn't shown much.  But then neither has Taylor, other than on Special Teams (ST).  And now Taylor's injury may make this decision moot.

OFFENSIVE LINE (8)

Keep:  Bulaga, Sitton, Dietrich-Smith, Lang, Newhouse, Bakhitari (D4A), Barclay, Datko

PUP:  Sherrod, Tretter (4B)

PS:  Van Roten, Taylor

Cut:  Gerhart, Lewis, Hughes

Comments:  No idea who will win RT job -- Newhouse, Bakhitari or Barclay.  But all three are keepers.  Still think Datko will emerge as 8th OL.  Misplaying him at G, expecting he'll prove to be a good backup OT.  Had higher hopes for Sherrod to be practicing by now, competing for starting job.  But since eligible for PUP, seems smart to just give him more time.  Looks like Barclay will be backup C for now.  Maybe Tretter plays by mid-season, fills that role.  But can bring Van Roten up any time from PS if needed.

DEFENSIVE LINE (7)

Keep:  Jones (D1), Raji, Pickett (33), Neal, Daniels, Jolly (30), Wilson

PUP:  Worthy

PS:  Boyd (D5B)

Cut:  Miller, Pena

Comments:  Keeping 7 because Neal hybrid DL/OLB.  Hoping Jolly shows enough to make it/be an upgrade over Wilson, but for now think there may be room for both.  Guessing Worthy will go on IR at mid-season, not room for him anyway if rest stay healthy.  Appears Boyd needs lots of work, so PS seems right for him.  Like Pena's size/Pickett's possible replacement, but no room for on PS.  Pickett's replacement more likely in next year's draft.

LINEBACKERS (9)

Keep:  OLBs Matthews, Perry, Moses, Palmer (D6), ILBs Hawk, Jones, Manning, Lattimore, Francois

PS:  OLB Mulumba

Cut:  ILBs Barrington (D7C), Reed, OLB Savage

Comments:  Keeping OLB Palmer right now, but mostly on potential.  Maybe Mulumba makes it and Palmer goes to PS.  Either way, I like keeping both around as developmental pass-rushers.  Manning and Lattimore looking good, coaches quoted as saying Francois having excellent camp.  Need backup LBs for STs.  No room for Barrington on PS with 9 active LBs and 1 already on PS.

DEFENSIVE BACKS (9)

Keep:  CBs Williams (30), Shields, Heyward, House, Hyde (D5A), Ss Burnett, McMillian, Jennings, Bush

PS:  CBs Nixon, Smith

Cut:  CB Means, Ss Richardson, Fulton, Powell, Banjo

Comments:  Putting Bush at S because, unfortunately, guessing Richardson will not be cleared by doctors to continue playing.  As 9th DB and best ST player, Bush still valuable.  9 DBs may be slightly light, but reserving 2 slots on PS.  Can never have enough CBs, and both Nixon and Smith have size and speed.  Means has the latter but not the former.

SPECIAL TEAMS (3)

Keep:  Tavecchio, Masthay, Goode

Cut:  Crosby

Comments:  Had previously said it would be quite a surprise to see Tavecchio beat out Crosby, but that Crosby had to show last year's struggles behind him.  Last night's debacle may not have been the last straw, but it's got to be close.

Hard to see van Roten cut until Barclay shows he can snap in the shotgun and Datko shows he can play G. The OL has to have a genuine backup C and a plausible backup G. Maybe that guy is found on the waiver wire.
I would not be surprised to see Harris on PUP and brought in midseason after Lacy, Starks, or Green go on IR (as one of them surely will).
Look for Richardson and Neal on the PUP also. It's a cost effective way to expand the roster.
Pease and Amosa may show up on the PS as developmental projects.

My thoughts on Harrell are well documented in the other thread. Putting Coleman on the PS, will never fly. Guarantee someone plucks him from the PS.

RB. I think Pease will be a surprise addition to the RB's this year. Dujuan Harris....you can't make the club from the tub.

WR: Looks good. Would like veteran WR at the league minimum for vets but we all know that will never happen

TE: Concur, We'll see what's up with Taylor in the coming days

OL: No way on Datko. Like Van Roten if for his name only.

DL: You forget the new IR rules. You can bring back a player late in the year (like the Ravens did with Ray Lewis & Suggs & Ed Reed) Worthy will play this year but most likely late in the season. He should be a nice addition to our rotation in December. I haven't made my decision on Boyd yet.

LB: Liking Mulumba. I think he sticks. Hawk looked really trim last night & moved well. Hope he keeps that up!

DB: Nixon might be unimpeachable. As long as we have a suitable ST's replacement, I'm hopeful someone can unseat Bush (FINALLY!)

ST: Crosby must have Chuck Knoblauch syndrome. I'm really bummed because I was pulling for Crosby. His leg is amazing but good god what the hell happened to his accuracy?!?! You just know they're going to cut Crosby & some dome team will pick him up & he'll be a HOF'r at the end of his career while kicking 70 yard FG's. Drives me nuts! At least Tavecchio is a good paisan. As long as we can kickoff out of the end zone with someone. In Lambeau in December & January, we need someone with a leg.

Agree on Datko not making the team.  Every time I read anything on him he's getting blown blowed up by somebody.

I think Pease, so far, deserves a roster spot although it's very early.  If GB keeps 4 RB's, Lacy and Franklin are locks obviously.  Next in line for me would be Green.  If it comes down to Pease and Starks, I'll take Pease.  Starks just always seems to find a way on the injury list for some reason.  I can see TT trading him for a late round pick at the end of camp.

If Kuhn is cut, who is the FB?

Pakrz, you and Boris, YA, saguaro may be right on Datko. Maybe Van Roten makes the 53 and Datko goes to the PS. As far as FB, I keep reading this offense can function just fine without a traditional FB. Maybe Quarless/Bostick play more of an H-back role. Maybe Lacy/Starks play FB with Franklin/Green/Harris at HB. Reminders of John Brockington at FB, MacArthur Lane at HB blocking for each other, both threats as runners and receivers.

Wouldn't call Kuhn a traditional FB and between his age, salary and role he's expendable. I see a minimum of two UFAs making the team and Mulumba, Savage, Walker and Pease are on the top of my list. Bush making the cut would be a surprise and his time appears over.

When BJ Colman was in college, everyone talked about his strong arm, and that has proven true.  But he had something like 9 ints to go with 7 TDs.  His team may have been bad, but with more INTs than TDs, I thought decision making had something to do with it and did not include him on that year's list.  When GB took him, I was wondering why?  I am still wondering why.  Not that I am sold on Harrell.  He found a way to fold against good college competition.  If it wasn't an interception it was a fumble or something that did him in.  It just might be he doesn't have enough physically to do well in the NFL.

So we are left with a choice between a guy who has the physical tools, but has a 10 cent head, and a guy who might not have enough physically but might have a better grasp of things otherwise.  "Better" being a relative term in this case.  Not a good position to put your team in.

I was hoping that Wilson did well enough in Oakland that they might cut Flynn and GB would pick him up.  I know - wishful thinking.

Based on the recent injuries and signings, here is my prediction prior to preseason game 1:

QB: Rodgers, Young (2)

Cut: Harrell

Practice Squad: Coleman

*Harrell and Coleman have looked really rough and Young has at least started games and won't fumble a hand-off. They will still give Coleman 1 more year on the PS though.

RB: Lacy(R), Franklin(R), Starks, Harris (4)

Cut: Green

Practice Squad: Pease

*Green just doesn't have a niche to justify a spot. I see them giving Starks 1 more chance. Pease will stay on the PS, he has some real potential.

FB: Kuhn (1)

Practice Squad: Amosa

*I see them trying to develop Amosa. Won't be surprised if he makes the 53.

TE: Finley, Quarless, Mulligan, R. Taylor (4)

Cut: DJ Williams, Stoneburner

Practice Squad: Bostick

*Williams just doesn't offer enough as a blocker and Stoneburner is very raw. Bostick is a good one to develop.

WR: Cobb, Nelson, Jones, Ross, Boykin (5)

Cut: Gillett, White, Walker, Wilson, C. Johnson, Dorsey

Practice Squad: Hines

*Really good group overall. Hines has some interesting skills like Ross did last year.

OT: Bahktiari(R), Newhouse, Barclay (3)

Cut: Hughes

Injured Reserve: Bulaga, Tretter(R)

PUP: Sherrod

*Hughes did nothing to stand out. Sherrod will be activated by week 6.

OG: Sitton, Lang, L. Taylor(R), Van Roten (4)

*Lane Taylor looks like he could be a solid OL with some experience.

C: Evan D-S (1)

Cut: Lewis, Gerhart

*They have cross trained Barclay and Van Roten so they only keep 1 starter.

DE: D. Jones(R), Daniels, Boyd(R), Neal (4)

Cut: Wilson

PUP: Worthy

*Wilson is a good run defender, but he doesn't offer enough overall. Boyd looks like a keeper.

NT: Raji, Pickett, Jolly (3)

Cut: Miller

*I think they stay patient with Jolly. He's a gamer so I anticipate seeing more impact in a game.

OLB: Matthews, Perry, Moses, Mulumba(R) (4)

Cut: Reed, Savage

Practice Squad: Palmer(R)

*Mulumba is an intriguing athlete and will contribute. Palmer has some skills, but needs time to develop.

ILB: Hawk, Jones, Manning, Lattimore, Francois (5)

Practice Squad: Barrington(R)

*Barrington has potential, but is caught in a logjam of good role players.

CB: T. Williams, Hayward, Shields, House, Hyde(R), Bush (6)

Cut: Smith, Means, Nixon

*Deepest group of CBs I have seen in GB in a LONG time.

S: Burnett, McMillan, Jennings (3)

Cut: Fulton

Practice Squad: Powell

IR: Richardson

*Bush is cross-trained to play S in a pinch. Powell has some potential. Richardson will spend another year on IR and hopefully can come back next year...his career may be over though.

K: Tavecchio (1)

Cut: Crosby

*Could go either way. I think Crosby's confidence is totally gone, might as well try a new Kicker.

P: Masthay (1)

LS: Goode (1)

I thought with the PUP, you have a 3 week roster exemption, so they wouldn't need "flexibility" there.  I think they keep 53.

Shockingly I think Bush and Taylor squeak by again! And honestly neither contribute much to their position, but whose 6th CB and 4th TE really do? To me it's the same as keeping a guy like Dante Hall or Devin Hester, they're really good at Special Teams, but not much else. You need those guys though. And who do you keep instead of them? Another OL who can't be a gunner on STs? That means a guy like Casey Hayward, Tramon Williams, James Jones, or Morgan Burnett have to pick up that slack. Or do you keep a young guy like Nixon or Means who seem to have some talent, but are complete unknowns as ST players. Bush, for all his poor play at CB, really does a solid job on STs.

They have started the season with 52 before but that's the exception, not the norm. I like your list but I would keep Green and make it 53. He's just having too good a camp right now. Good enough that I'd keep him over Starks if it came down to those two.

The team needs to prepare for the possibility of life after Finley and Bostick is a much better option. I'm intrigued by the upside of both Nixon and Smith and don't see just being a core ST player as enough this year given all the young talent.
