Rodgers, Cobb and Kuhn have all been glorified for one of the great plays in Packer history, but I think special mention should be made of Cobb here. Rodgers and Kuhn made their plays on athleticism and instincts, but Cobb must be highlighted because he wasn't only "acting on instinct" he was "thinking," on the run. He was quoted after the game as saying he was supposed to sit down at the sticks, but based on the play development he knew no one would be in the area he ran to, so he took off. The result was a thing of beauty.

Maybe players making adjustments is just part of football and of course it's done regularly on broken plays, but watch Cobb, he doesn't know the play is broken, he makes a decision to change his route with his back to the play. Jordy was already decleated. Cobb didn't know that. What Cobb did was make an executive decision, on the most important play of his career, that took smarts and guts. Glad we have him.

He also made 2 good blocks on the quick sideline pass, one to Jordy and one to James Jones. They did not go for big yards but they did gain instead of the usual nothing.  The guy is a football player for sure

Cobb said he saw his DB "flat-footed" and then raised his arm to attract attention and then he bolted by the Bear DB line into the clear.  He took an educated guess knowing the Bears were in an all out blitz and that Rodgers most likely would be able to extend the play with a quick scramble.

I guess that is what makes him such a special player with greater potential.  If I was TT, he would be at the top of my list to re-sign ASAP.

Most people don't realize the Packer offense is a living breathing thing. The WR's are in the QB meetings & are supposed to read the defense just like the QB's.

Randall Cobb is a former QB & he did the right thing on that play. You could see the Bears defenders all jump the routes because they expected pressure on Rodgers (rushed 7) & thought for sure Rodgers would check down to the hot read.

They found out the hard way when you blitz Rodgers, you get burned. GAME OVER!

Good posts here.  Boris is on point.

I knew Cobb was going to be a good one when Rodgers went out of his way during Cobb's first camp to single him out as special.

Watching the adjustments Rodgers and receivers make during the play are continually fascinating.  They are rarely on the wrong page.  To me this is the greatest strength of McCarthy's offenses.  It was there during Favre's last season with GB and throughout Rodgers' career.  Only other QB with that sort of rapport with receivers IMO is Peyton.

Some guys just have great "football instincts" and Cobb is one of them.  Guys like that are always a little bit quicker in their decision making than others on the field and it gives them that extra step they need to make a play.

If you watch Cobb in slo-mo you can see that his head and eyes are totally focused on the safety's hips & feet and as soon as he sees the safety squat, instead of flipping his hips to run with Cobb... it was over.

Very smart  play and the momentum from that incredible finish will give them the juice they need all week during preparation for the 9ers. Go Packers

All the more so when you consider Packers beat reporters were saying two weeks ago that Cobb was basically teaching himself how to run routes again in practice when he was finally cleared to run.  Says a lot about his innate athleticism.

AR mentioned Cobb having a high football IQ and that he was going to be a special player for a long time two years ago.

No question in my mind GB is 13-3 at worst if AR and Cobb don't miss any time.

Speaking of uniforms, Cobb said this about his (from jsonline):

"When I woke up this morning, just laying in bed — actually I don't even think I  slept last night, I was just so excited to play again," said Cobb. "Kind of like a little kid. You know, I'm grateful for the opportunity to put the green and gold back on. And to be able to play."

Not sure the Pack wins yesterday without him in the lineup.  Cobb is athletically gifted,  has smarts and humility.  What's not to love about the guy?

Jordy was well past 5 yards when leveled.  In fact he was right at the red line showing 1st down yardage needed which was 8 yards. Some ref missed that but what's new after all the blown calls this season.

Hey, at least we didn't get screwed like the Steelers did on the SD win. The Chargers clearly lined up in an illegal formation on the field goal with 7 guys on the right side. Two refs standing there and neither called it. The Chiefs miss the field goal as it goes wide right, SD goes on to win in OT, and the Steelers are out. Talk about a long-distance screw job!

I saw the Cobb play as Cobb realizing the safety turned off him to go to the receiver on the sideline, Cobb immediately recogized it and throws his arm up for Rodgers even before he clears the safety, he keeps running, trusting Rodgers to get it to him. Instinct meeting smarts meeting athleticism = season-saving TD.

Speaking of smart, let's not forget that odd TD by Boykin. Rodgers said he looked at the ref, who was looking at him and Boykin, and then he told Boykin to run it in. Smart to just take advantage of the no whistle and the refs' confusion. Dumb Bear could have easily scooped up the ball and run it the other way.

The Boykin TD from the "Ask Vic" perspective:

Bo from Maxwell, IA: I can see why you hyped that trick play. It was a doozy. I don’t think anyone saw a “fumble that looks like an incomplete pass” coming. McCarthy is a genius.

Vic: You’ve heard of the Fumblerooski? This is the Fumblepasski.

linky

Cobb was asking for the ball right after he left the LOS. But, he likely doesn't get the ball if Kuhn doesn't make the block on Peppers. A block that should have been made by Bakhtiari, but the Rook didn't get the pre-snap blocking change called and continued to block down instead of moving out to take on Peppers. Kuhn saw that Bakh missed the assignment and slid across for the season saver.

That GW TD happened because the 3 players (Rodgers, Cobb, Kuhn) who probably know the offense better than anyone adjusted to the D as the play unfolded.

Thing.Of.Beauty.

I would not have been disappointed if he were tackled inside the 5. ...but I ain't complaining.  Pack could've run the clock down and kicked winning FG with less than 5 seconds. Or missed the FG like they did against the Stillers.

There's a lot of dynamics to that play, including a great block by Coon that has been mentioned over and over.

More so than Cobb being smart is that AR and Cobb were on the same page.  There's plenty of NFL quarterbacks that would have thrown that ball to where Cobb should have been, which would have resulted in an ugly interception and the quarterback raising his arms in the air as if to say "WTF" to the receiver.

To think that AR and Cobb were on the same page after missing all that time due to injury is just remarkable.  When you consider the game situation that was taking place at the time, it's ****ing ridiculous!

I can't say the same thing about the defense, but the Packer offense is well-coached and smooth like butter.

GO PACK GO!

I thought the same thing....but then the end of the game the way it happened was more fitting...IF the defense gave up a TD with 38 seconds left, then we would've been OK with that because it was expected the way our D has played this season....but since our D prevailed...not only did we win, but it gave us some hope for this weekend against the Whiners.

I think Rodgers knew something was up because of the way he ran over to Boykin and the ball as if he was going to pick it up himself.  He seemed unsure until the bench guys  yelled at him and then he yelled to Boykin to go for it.

after watching the replay and of the defense in particular, Capers needs to go. IMO, there is a lot of raw talent out there even now but just so dumb in the schemes that its like using High schoolers because they don't know what the he?ll is going on half the time.

For instance, having Perry drop anywhere in coverage is plain stupid in any scheme with CMIII out. Rush the M?????f?cker on every play, I'm thinkin good things happen. Move Perry around with Mulumba at the LOS and get after it, the fat boys will do the rest inside, go to a quasi 4-3 in essence within your god-darn 3-4.

Just me but Jesus Christ on a cracker ... some of these young kids are too dumb to ask them to think, just let them go on natural abilities right now.
