Nice comeback, but it was against the 9ers. Not impressed.

I’m impressed with throws and catches on last drive. Not impressed with McCarthy and his season of uninspired unimaginative play.

It’s an average team, with the best QB in the world. And a lot of time that’s enough.

I disagree.  I see a below average team with a great qb who is not playing his best ball.  The knee is taking its toll on him obviously, but I’m not even sure that a healthy #12 can right this sinking ship.  If we have this much trouble playing the 49er’s, what’s going to happen after the bye when we play some really solid teams?   I hate to say it, but I’m preparing for the worst.

Which team took more years off my life tonight, the Milwaukee Jeffress, or the Packers? Goodness.

It doesn't matter.

Each year from either was worth it.

When that moment just grin  and stare it.

You always want to see them win, but it reminds me a bit of the Herb Kohl Bucks teams. Just good enough to make things interesting, but not good enough to be taken seriously.

The reality is they are 3 great performances late by #12 from being a 1-5 team.   And it’s not like they have been facing murderers row in terms of quality opponents.

What they miss in defensive talent and injuries on offense they make up for with mediocre coaching in terms of preparation and execution.  The end result is a pretty ordinary squad - or a team that’s 3-2-1 heading into a brutal stretch of games.

Hope for the best, but may have to expect the worst.  The next couple of games in particular will define whether they sink or swim because right now they look like a team that’s treading water.

After WAS I said 8-7-1.  I'll stick with that.  Though I admit I'm not sure where they'll get those 5 extra wins.  Even before the season started and hope sprang eternal I thought they were still a year away from really competing.  I'm not sure you can fix all the holes that still remain with only one more offseason.  You probably need 2 OLB's, 2 S's, another DL.  On offense they need OL.  They're not great at WR and RB but they have so many draft picks there the last two years, and they're showing enough to keep Guggenheim from redrafting there.

and the kicker is...  they did run some imaginative plays BUT they were gawd awful in design and thought.  one that sticks out was in the 1st half when 1 second after the snap the entire OL lays down??   w.t.f?   I'd hafta watch tape but there were 2 or 3 others that had me wishing they woulda just run straight up the gut and see what happens rather than running around like a circus for a 3 yard loss.

I thought this was true, but after re-watching the game...those plays were well designed and would have hit big if executed properly.  For instance, On the bad loss after handing off to montgomery... that play would have been a homerun since it was designed as a double reverse--adams would have had no one on the right side of the field if it is executed cleanly.  Linsley missed badly on his block.

On the throw to Adams behind the line of scrimmage for a loss, Bak missed his block terribly...otherwise adams is wide open on the left sideline.  This was not a well blocked game.  While I'm not enthusiastic about mccarthy, he had schemed some very good plays to break things open (see the diamond formation for a touchdown).  You do have to have all of the pieces of the scheme do their part.

I recall this too--one guy not doing his job (Linsley) destroyed the play and Monty was wise to hold onto the ball rather than risk a handoff.

Loved that diamon formation TD but the Niners helped us by only putting two guys out there. Doubt other teams will make that mistake.

"This was a poorly blocked game."  Pretty much in a nutshell.  So much contact behind the LOS, free rushers sprinting at AR, etc.  I hadn't heard anything about SF's OL being one of their strengths.

Their OL is actually really good. Staley is a rock and McGlinchey has been pretty good this year for them at RT. Their C Richburgh seems to be the weakest, but their OG's are having strong years.

Bak sent a 49er corner into November after sprinting 10 yards to the deep flat on an Aaron Jones 18yd run. Very impressive for a LT. Bak is an All Pro LT. Linsley has been identified as a target. Not much to be done about that now.

Mike went to the PA / bootleg about 49 too many times last night. And there’s no ****ing way Rodgers kept checking into that **** so he could get himself destroyed. That was Mike going to the IHOP chart far more than he should have.

New name for Mike is Sex Panther.

I don't know why now the OL is failing to do its job. Bak is still Bak and is really good most of the time but can disappear now and then for a play; you don't hear much good or bad about Lane (is that good or bad?); Lindsley is a total mess and at times a real detriment; Bell is either serviceable or awful; Bulaga shows up on the injury report again and never seems healthy. Did Campen forget how to coach this off-season?

Not trying to be an mm apologist.  However if you go back to the replays often those free rushes appear to me as missed blocking assignments. Thus Aaron Jones being pulled and m Lewis mostly being a listless, uninterested blocker...hence we don't see him as an integral part of the offense. Also I note baks missed block as an illustration that you can draw up a great play that would have resulted in a big gain as a reason for us to pump the breaks on considering ourselves as genius offensive strategists. Even great players like bak screw the pooch sometimes.
