Well, it is possible a Wisconsin kid grew up a fan of the Badgers, I could see hat. It is possible he saw an opportunity to start earlier/pay more at Wisconsin. He may have wanted to stay near home and recognized Minnisota has a crap program. He might have weighed that those coaches were not as good of a match with him. He might have watched the Badgers beat duke. He may have seen a near certain opportunity to make the NCAA tournament in an extremely strong program that does an excellent job showcasing point guards.

Maybe a surface knowledge of hockey is where it stops for you.
Don't take it so personal Bucky. UW has a respectable basketball program. The other schools I mentioned are college basketball royalty. It's not even debatable.

I'm sure he had his reasons to go to UW... I think he's a dip**** for doing it. Granted, he never called me to ask for my opinion on the matter.

That crap program in "Minnisota" is doing quite well this year, no? How's Bucky doing? I haven't been paying attention... Hockey's been getting in the way.
Thats a pretty lazy argument to make.

Duke and UNC weren't always "royalty." And it's not necessarily a poor reflection on an individual's intelligence to want to be a part of the rise instead of going to "royalty." Koenig is already on record saying he wants to win a Championahip and wants to do it in WI.

Perhaps he's a fool. But perhaps not. If he accomplishes the goal of a Championship for Bo Ryan, I guess the fool is the one who believes the only path to greatness is the one everyone already had taken...
I don't know what you would call college basketball "royalty" but when you think of tradition it's hard to top schools like Kansas and Indiana and Louisville and Kentucky and UNC and Duke. I guess you could also include a school like UCLA in that group but they haven't been as good recently. UConn, Syracuse, and Arizona might make the next list depending on your perspective.

On paper, Wisconsin has been pretty good in their own right, and IMO there's no shame in losing a player to one of those schools. By the same token, this isn't like 1990 when the program was getting excited about making the NIT tournament. Wisconsin has been a consistent top 25 program and they've made the Dance just about every year. Now, some players may want more flash and visibility at another school, but I don't know that you can criticize UW for other reasons. They've been pretty good.

I think that is very true for the most part. But, maybe he saw that he had a better chance of playing at UW instead of the other programs?

U of A... lmfao. Sorry, but last I checked Wisconsin has a string of tourney appearances going on 2 decades almost now. U of A is not in the class of Kentucky, Duke, UNC... stop dreaming, neither is Wisconsin, but recruits choose over those schools all of the time. Im sure he has his reasons.

I'm surprised I didn't get called out on UA earlier. Kudos. I tossed UA in there out of fun. They had a few down years when Lute Olson quit due to health reasons but are back on the map with Sean Miller. IMO, they're the best program on the west coast and are headed in the right direction.

But you're right, they aren't on the level of Duke and UNC either.
You guys are assuming that kids choose schools only for the program. Just within the program there are a lot of factors. How soon will I get to play, how many minutes will I get, what is my career goal? Sports or other.
Then take into account schools and their location/Campus's. Compared to Madison many good size schools are like oversized high schools. My son visited Georgia and hated the feel of the town and all the "Ugly" old red brick buildings. His words. He really disliked Florida State's campus. Finally we have decided on Florida, nice campus and good sports program. Then this past summer we spent 3 days in Madison visiting UW and he could not get over the "Great School, Cool Place" feeling he had when he was there. Again the quotes are his words.
My point is 15,16,17 year old kids see things for much more than just Duke or North Carolina. There choices are much more complicated than just wanting to play for the Basketball or Football "God's".

4 and 5 star guys, a couple from WI, couple from Chicago. If any of these guys commit, it would be a major coup for this program. With next year's class of Koenig (who is having a good season by reports), Brown, Dearring, Hayes, and Hill, this could be a nice little run for Ryan's program.

Get a couple of these 2014 offers to commit (especially one of those big men), they'll have some serious muscle to go with a pretty good group of Gs and swing men.
