Became a Packers fan about 1971/72. Out here on the West Coast rarely saw the Packers on TV. Used to follow them with Ray Nitschke's "Packer Report", the Sporting News recaps.
In the late 70's, found a guy who lived in New York who watched the Packers on satellite--he used to tape the games and then send me the tapes. Great stuff, because it was without commercials and instead you would get the network feed of cuing up commercials or shots of the booths. I still have the 1985 "Snow Bowl" game---during timeouts, great shots of the booth with snow blowing in and the announcers freezing.
The earliest Packer game I remember seeing had to have been 1 of 2 games. More likely, it was the 1965 playoff against the Colts (Unitas and Gary Cuozo sp? injured and Tom Matte played QB for Colts, Starr injured and Zeke Bratkowski played QB for Pack). I was 7 years old and the family drove from Milwaukee to a relative in Rubicon so as to see the game.
What I remember was it was a night game and I asked my dad when the game was over. He said when and I was so tired and then he gave a later time due to the game going into OT. ( I couldn't understand and was irritable and upset. I wanted to go to bed!)
I was really too young.
I remember seeing the Packers play the Cowboys the next year in Dallas and I have some solid memories of 1967.
The other game I have a vague memory of was a regular season game against the Rams. I know it was before 1967. What I distinctly remember was Roman Gabriel kept throwing these square outs to (I think) Bernie Casey. He looked unstoppable. All of a sudden Adderly stepped in front of one and took it to the house.

I don't have a clear memory of the first game I watched. I do remember John Hadl was the quarterback, so that was probably 1975. The first game I saw in person was with my brother-in-law (duffman here on timesfour) in 1992. Milwaukee County stadium vs. the Lions. It snowed a lot, and Sterling Sharpe thought the 5 yard line was the endzone.

Now here's a true Packer fan.
Watch my first Packer game?? So long ago that I cannot remember the first one. Don't even know when they started on TV. I became a Packer fan back in the mid 40's but that must have been only on radio. My folks never had TV until I was junior in high school (1952) but they were Packer fans and we did listen to them on the radio every chance we got. Anyone know when they actually started to be on TV?? Never miss a game now. Even when I was working and could not watch, I would tape the game and watch it later.
As Archie Bunker and Edith used to sing,THOSE WERE THE DAYS! Matt Dillon and Gunsmoke on Sat. nights and Vinces Packers on Sunday afternoon in B&W,never forget the bygone era.quote:Originally posted by Oldtimer:
I started watching the Packers in 1960. However, the only game I remember from that season was the team's 17-13 loss to Philadelphia in the NFL Championship Game, Lombardi's only playoff loss.
My family and I watched the game on our black & white RCA console television, yelling ourselves hoarse. When it ended, everyone harrumped that the Pack had been gypped by the referees and how could this travesty be allowed.
I sometimes think back to day when I'm p/o'd at the refs while watching the Pack now, and consider that in some regards neither I or the NFL have changed that much over 50 years.
