I feel a little older.
Slightly more believable link.
No offense to the twitter handle Dejan_Kovacevic intended.
Madden, Shula, Dungy, and Bud Grant are hurting tonight. Chuck had a load of great sayings but his best without question was "Play better than refs ref"
No question a "Mine would have beat yours" between Vince and Chuck broke out in heaven. My guess is Chuck would have deferred to Vince out of respect. He was all class.
RIP Chuck.
RIP Chuck.
just curious...but what was the feud between Noll and Bradshaw?
Terry being a dumbass. Terry knows Chuck was the best thing that ever happened to him. It just took him time to realize how great Chuck was. Sometimes you're best influences don't hit you until you're smart enough to realize they wanted the best for you.
Thats what makes them good people. That's all they ever wanted. When Nick and Finley are 50 and running patterns with their kids they'll understand Ted wanted what's best for them instead of what's best for him.
Nice Chuck Noll story from a Steelers fan.
I love reading those feel good kind of stories.
The local rag out here had an obit/article about Chuck Noll today...snip...
“He was one of the great coaches of the game,” Steelers owner Dan Rooney once said. “He ranks up there with (George) Halas, (Tom) Landry and (Curly) Lambeau.”
just curious, but I found it odd that Rooney didn't mention Lombardi?
Maybe he thinks he doesn't rank as high as Lombardi. But close.
Actually, I suspect he meant to say Lombardi instead of Lambeau.
I feel a little older.
Yeah, me too.
Rest in peace, Mr Noll.
Loved what one guy (don't recall who) said about Noll: He arrived at the office at about 8 a.m. and left at 5 or 5:30 p.m., yet his teams better prepared than any other, and the Steelers were always prepared for anything the other team could throw at them.
To me, that speaks volumes about Noll's organization, efficiency, and ability to coach and remain human. RIP, Mr. Noll.
NFL Network has lots of great 70s Steelers stories that I recorded and am watching right now. Steelers 74 Draft of 4 Hall of Famers. Immaculate reception. 78 SB season. Great stuff.
74 Draft had 5 Hall of Famers. I played across the line against 2 of them.
Like Lombardi, I suspect he took guys who had the potential for greatness and crafted them to the Hall of Fame state.
I'll never forget an after-game "handshake" between Noll and Jerry Glanville when Glanville was in Houston.
Noll thought Houston had played particularly dirty that game, and didn't let go of Glanville's hand after grasping it, put a finger in his face, and didn't let go of it until he finished dressing Glanville down.
The look on Glanville's face was priceless!
