I don't mean this comparison disrespectfully, but I can't help thinking about the similarity with the Minnesota bridge. You keep putting weight on a weakened structure, eventually it's going to collapse completely. And it was completely unnecessary and avoidable.

Well, just put him in contact with Adrian Peterson's pharma... er, "trainer", he'll be just fine.
I've seen lots of RG3 highlights over the last few years, but I've payed little attention to him beyond that. Seems like a decent kid though. I wonder if he's got the talent to be a more traditional pocket passer type NFL QB if the knee never makes it back to 100%.
He became my favorite non Packer player this season. He's an exceptional talent...and if that dimension of his game was lost because of this injury, I still believe he could flourish as a more traditional pocket passer. It would be a shame, however. I think he has (had?) as close to a perfect skill set as anyone could ask for at the QB position. Ever.
His rookie contract is 4 years, 21 million dollars.

Hope he recovers back to full strength, but he probably lost about 100 million dollars if he doesn't.

Wonder if the Redskins brass has him out there if he'd have signed a contract like Sam Bradford did when he got 50 million guaranteed two years ago?
QBs with RGIII's athletic ability always rely on running the ball early in their careers. But RGIII is smarter and a more accurate passer than any running QB I've ever seen. If I was a Redskins fan, I wouldn't worry a bit if RGIII was forced to become a pure pocket passer.

But the best thing for him would be to learn to get out of harm's way like Wilson has been doing for Seattle.
No reason to think he can't fully recover. He appears to be a workout warrior. And with today's medical advances, I wouldn't be surprised to see him heal up quickly. He's still very young and should be able to heal fairly well. Look at AP.

Knee, elbow and shoulder injuries just aren't what they used to be as far as surgeries/recovery.
Besides Aaron Rodgers, RG3 scares the crap outta me. Not Calvin Johnson or Adrian Peterson, not any other player.

Yes he's that good. His passing accuracy is every bit as good as Rodgers.

I hope he is ok. I enjoyed watching him play this season & would like to see a lot more of him.
AP had an ACL and MCL injury. I'm not sure if an MCL or a PCL is worse, same, not as bad?. This would be the second surgery for Griffin to the same knee in 4 years though. That has to have some effect on the recovery, right?
I know Adrian Peterson was awesome this year, but if I'm the Redskins I consider not letting RG3 see the field until training camp in 2014. Maybe the last couple of games in 2013 if he gets cleared, but given the injury history I wouldn't rush to get him ready for September.
Agree that RG III can still have a great career even if his speed is no longer there or somewhat compromised.

He just needs to be more like Aaron Rodgers, run it once in awhile to keep a defense honest, but no more designed runs or option reads for the QB. He's got accuracy, instincts, poise, a strong arm, and I'm sure he'll still be pretty fast. Maybe he won't have as many spectacular runs, but he still can be a great player.

Kirk Cousins actually impressed me this year more than I thought he would. He can keep the Redskins competitve until RGIII comes back.
RG3 to have more tests.

In other words, Shanahan is basically saying: "[Guys.. it's really bad.. and there's so much carnage in his knee that even the MRI machine can't figure it out.]"

If the initial speculation was MCL/PCL, and he had a previous ACL/LCL... could that mean that this is a MCL/PCL/ACL/LCL injury?
Not quite. PCL is really hard to diagnose as it's hidden behind the MCL and smaller. It's difficult to get a good read on it. I had a friend who tore it, and it was a bear to diagnose and then come back from. I am wondering if he really damaged the PCL from the first hit (watch the hyperextension) and that contributed to his tearing the ACL. Also, there may be a whole lotta other stuff going on as well.

And, that'll be the next thing out of Shanny's mouth "That's why we drafted Kirk"
If I'm Snyder, I'm taking Griffin's salary for 2013 out of Shanahan's paycheck.

You know, one thing that's getting lost in all of this.... I have to say that that was one of the most purely gutsy performances I've ever seen on a football field. You could also argue that it was one of the stupidest, but you can't deny the courage that took. He knew what he was doing. He knew what was happening. And there was not one ounce of quit in him.

That's one tough man. He's going to be a force to be reckoned with when he comes back from this.
